Position Summary

The Maintenance Assistant plays a key support role in helping maintain the daily operations of Warroad Senior Living Center. This position assists the Maintenance Technician and Maintenance Facility Director by performing routine, non-technical maintenance duties, helping with room setups, transporting materials, and ensuring that both the interior and exterior of the facility remain clean, safe, and orderly. The Maintenance Assistant helps ensure a welcoming and well-maintained environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Performs general maintenance of the property including grounds and physical plant including but not limited to:

General Support & Facility Upkeep

  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, cleaning vents, tightening screws, and restocking supplies.
  • Support room setups, furniture moves, and event preparation as needed.
  • Transport tools, equipment, and materials to job sites within the facility.
  • Groundskeeping & Exterior Maintenance
  • Support outdoor maintenance including mowing, raking, trimming, and basic landscaping.
  • Assist with seasonal snow and ice removal, including shoveling walkways, salting, and operating snow removal equipment under supervision.
  • Preventive Maintenance Support
  • Help carry out routine maintenance checks (e.g., filter replacements, safety equipment inspections) under the direction of senior maintenance staff.
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist in keeping maintenance areas organized, clean, and free of hazards.
  • Support emergency preparedness tasks and drills as assigned

Teamwork & Communication

  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors regarding tasks and priorities.
  • Provide courteous and respectful assistance to residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to ensure minimal disruption to residents during maintenance tasks.

Required Qualifications

Minimum requirements include the following:

  • Willingness to learn and grow in a facilities/maintenance career.
  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Meets general health requirements according to facility policy, including medical and physical exams and checking immunity status to various infectious diseases.
  • Physical activity required, including standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 40 lbs.), and working both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.
  • Exposure to inclement weather conditions, cleaning chemicals, and equipment noise.
  • Ability to observe, listen and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to tolerate varying temperatures in hot/cold and/or wet environments.
  • Ability to lift, move, push or pull a minimum of 35 pounds to a minimum of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • Works in all areas throughout the facility.
