Job Description

Tutor Doctor Michigan is seeking a patient, dependable, and enthusiastic elementary tutor to provide individualized reading and math instruction to a fourth-grade student at Southfield Library.

The student is social, enjoys music and art, and would benefit from a tutor who can make learning engaging while building academic skills, confidence, and independence. Experience supporting students with ADHD, IEPs, and learning challenges is preferred.

Schedule & Availability

• Monday and Wednesday after 6:00 p.m.
• Alternatively, weekends after 11:00 a.m.
• Two in-person tutoring sessions per week

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized fourth-grade reading and math instruction.
• Strengthen reading comprehension, decoding, and foundational literacy skills.
• Reinforce foundational math concepts and problem-solving strategies.
• Adapt instruction to accommodate learning differences and individual needs.
• Incorporate hands-on activities, manageable learning steps, and short breaks to maintain engagement.
• Build confidence, focus, and independent learning skills.
• Communicate student progress and areas needing improvement.

Ideal Candidate

• Experience tutoring or teaching elementary reading and math.
• Familiarity with ADHD, IEP accommodations, or differentiated instruction preferred.
• Patient, creative, encouraging, and adaptable teaching style.
• Ability to engage students working below grade level.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Reliable transportation to Southfield Library.
• Consistent availability for twice-weekly sessions.
