The Portland Regency Hotel & Spa is looking for a full-time Valet to join our team! A beautiful Historic Hotel of America located in the heart of Portland's Old Port District.

Summary: Provides exceptional service to all guests and potential guests by assisting them in a friendly, efficient, courteous and professional manner.  Provides valet parking services to safely and efficiently move guest automobiles to a designated parking location while following Company policies and procedures.   This function may include assisting with loading and unloading of luggage, providing information in regard to the hotel’s facilities and events, and directions to local attractions.  

Schedule: Nights (3:00pm-11:00pm) and Weekends

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • To check work schedule each week and report for all scheduled shifts on time, in complete uniform and with your name tag on. Any switching of shifts must have prior approval from your manager.

  • To punch in to the correct department on the time clock no more than 5 minutes before your shift and punching out directly after the shift ends.

  • To provide excellent Guest Service by being courteous, prompt, and professional.

  • Must have knowledge of all aspects of the facilities in the hotel.

  • When interacting with a dissatisfied guest, politely apologize and seek assistance of a member of upper management when available.

  • Must have knowledge of packages, incoming groups, VIP’s, and other hotel activities.

  • Dealing with all guest requests and/or complaints in a professional and knowledgeable manner.

  • Assisting guests in any reasonable manner possible to assure the happiness of said guest,( ie; helping guest with dinner reservations, directions, amenities, etc.)

  • To greet guests while still in their vehicle or by opening Hotel doors for all guests and always with a smile.  When inclement weather, use an umbrella to assist guests.  

  • To keep the valet desk clean and neat; this means by keeping coffee, soda etc. hidden behind/under the desk area.

  • To keep the exterior of Hotel clean and free of debris, snow, leaves, etc. To keep brass and glass on doors and bell cart cleaned at all times.  Assists Maintenance Team both inside and outside – sweeps, shovels, puts sand down when icy, waters flowers/grass, etc.

  • To use proper etiquette when answering the phone.  Assist the Front Desk with answering phone calls.  

  • To properly file and tag keys.

  • To label and properly store all guest luggage, especially luggage left overnight.  

  • To promptly deliver laundry, when it is returned from cleaners, to the correct room and give the Front Desk the receipts to post the charges to the guests room properly.

  • To aid other departments as needed, with a positive attitude.

  • To voice complaints to management only.

  • To assist guests to and from the airport and bus/train stations, as needed.  Also includes:  various places around town:  local restaurants, museums, Merrill Auditorium, etc.

  • To always follow all State of Maine driving laws.  

  • To assist Front office manager with any needs that they may have.

  • To have hotel vehicles clean at all times and always filled with gas.

  • To perform any other related duties assigned by any Department manager.

  • To have general knowledge of the Greater Portland area.

  • To call taxis for guests when needed.

  • To keep lobby clutter free and neat at all times.

  • To make sure the reader board is accurate and modify as needed.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

     

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    This position requires a valid driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record.  Must have driver’s license for a minimum of two years.

     

    Education and/or Experience

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

     

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
