Online Gardening Information Intern

The Morton Arboretum is a world-renowned nonprofit dedicated to the study, growth, and preservation of trees. The Arboretum's digital learning program partners with experts across the organization to create online content (including web pages, webinars, and online courses) to help people learn and apply plant care best practices. Beyond just offering advice, we help gardeners and green professionals understand why and how they can make a difference in their homes, their backyards, and their communities. We are seeking an individual to help develop a "New Gardener Toolkit": A relevant, evidence-based, beginner-friendly suite of tools to help new gardeners thrive. This individual will need to conduct, compile, and curate research from sources across the Arboretum and collaborate to develop content that meets the needs of new gardeners. We are looking for an excellent communicator who is organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as part of a small team. 

Position Summary: Support the creation of an engaging, accessible online “New Gardener Toolkit” to help home gardeners build confidence in basic plant care and discover the Arboretum’s resources. Collaborate with subject matter experts to evaluate, develop, and curate content, and help design a communications strategy to promote the toolkit to its intended audiences.

Essential Functions

  • Meet with Arboretum staff to understand key gardening challenges faced by beginners and gather ideas for useful content.

  • Research and benchmark similar online resources from other organizations.

  • Review existing materials and suggest updates or additions.

  • Help create short, beginner-friendly content with input from subject matter experts.

  • Assist with organizing and formatting content for web or digital learning platforms.

  • Support outreach planning to promote the toolkit to home gardeners and community partners

  • Demonstrate alignment with the Arboretum’s employee core values.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Coursework or experience in horticulture, communications, education, user experience, or a related field preferred.

  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, etc.) required.

  • Experience creating digital or multimedia learning content preferred.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to make technical or specialized information easy to understand.

The hiring rate for this position is $20.00/hour. This position is also eligible for a competitive benefits package.
