Parking Attendant

Do you enjoy working outdoors and helping people? The Arboretum is looking for friendly and reliable Parking Attendants to assist with traffic and parking during busy times and special events. You’ll help keep visitors safe, provide directions, and support our Security team. This role is great for those with good communication skills who want to be part of a welcoming team. Weekend and holiday shifts are required. Come help us make every visit a great experience! 

Position Summary: Provide assistance to Arboretum Security in maintaining a safe and orderly traffic and pedestrian flow during peak visitation periods. Perform a variety of tasks including security and safety operations, communicating Arboretum policies, and general assistance to staff and visitors. 

Essential Functions: 

• Work with security ranger staff in assisting with traffic direction and vehicle parking during peak visitation days and special events.

• Assist security staff with placement of cones, signs and ropes.

• Provide general Arboretum information and directions to visitors.

• Utilize two-way radio to keep in contact with on-duty rangers.

• Demonstrate alignment with the Arboretum’s employee core values.

• Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: Previous public contact work experience desired. Ability to communicate well with the general public and exceptional customer service skills required. Must be physically fit and able to stand for prolonged periods of time in varying weather conditions. Must present a professional image to the public by following the Security dress code.

Success Factors: Ability to be polite, informative, and helpful towards visitors. Ability to exercise sound judgment in dealing with the visiting public.

• Physical Demands: Requires significant physical activity: limited lifting and carrying (up to 35 lbs.), and standing for long periods of time. Vision in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hearing in the normal audio range with or without correction. 

• Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors, in varying weather conditions, at parking areas around the Arboretum grounds. 

• Equipment: Two-way radio, utility cart.

• Schedule: Schedule will primarily be on weekends, including holidays, with some weekday shifts as needed.
