Position Summary: Perform a variety of duties, primarily operating a central receiving and shipping dock, housekeeping tasks relating to the maintenance and appearance of Arboretum buildings. Assist Arboretum staff with facilities and events related matters including set-up and tear-down.
Essential Functions:
Receive deliveries, sign for receivables, and deliver to appropriate locations. Perform duties associated with receiving, stock, and inventory control in the centralized warehouse.
Preserve a safe work environment by maintaining and organizing the loading dock and adjacent storage areas.
Maintain perpetual inventory of custodial supplies in the dock storage areas.
Clean and/or maintain assigned building(s) on a daily basis. Use all applicable equipment and cleaning supplies necessary to maintain the building(s) according to established procedures.
May perform daily maintenance, monitoring, and disposal of trash from various buildings and remote locations and check and maintain port-o-lets around the Arboretum.
Check buildings regularly for any issues and report or repair as needed. Make minor repairs to small equipment. Assist staff with the moving of furniture or other heavy items.
Review schedules, diagrams, and equipment needs for events. Provide support, direction and assistance as needed. Set-up and tear-down rooms for meetings, rental events, special events, and organization events, as needed, in multiple buildings and locations.
May coordinate and assist with weekly, monthly, or annual inspections/services.
Report any apparent hazards to public safety to the Facilities Supervisor. Notify appropriate service personnel of any problems occurring in buildings, such as the malfunction of heating, cooling, plumbing, or electrical systems, or roof leaks.
Assist the Building Services Lead and Facilities Supervisor with special projects, which may include preventive maintenance, and in their absence, respond to requests that are directed to the Building Services section.
Regularly review and follow procedures as outlined in the Building Services handbook.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 4+ years of full-time experience in custodial work and warehouse experience is preferred. Knowledge of the fundamental techniques of building maintenance required. Experience in an office setting is preferred. Ability to service and handle the basic tools, equipment, and materials used in custodial work required. May have exposure to bloodborne pathogens as a result of job duties. Optional vaccination (Hepatitis B vaccine) will be made available. Must become certified and maintain certification in First Aid and CPR (classes provided). Must possess a valid driver’s license, which is subject to insurability and an annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report. Forklift experience preferred or ability to obtain forklift certification in the first six months. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google applications, and scheduling software is beneficial.
Success Factors: Ability to organize and schedule tasks in an efficient manner and to work independently without close supervision is important. Ability to follow directions. Ability to interact with employees and visitors in a courteous and patient manner. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Resourcefulness in managing last minute customer requests. Physical Demands: Requires regular physical activity: limited lifting and carrying (up to 75 lbs. assisted), bending, climbing (up to 12 ft.), standing (up to 7 hours daily), walking, traveling by car or truck. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment required.
Environment: Arboretum buildings and grounds. Work is performed indoors and outdoors. This position requires regular on-site presence.

Schedule: The regular work schedule is Monday-Friday 8am- 4pm. Work requires occasional evening and weekend hours.
