Logistics Manager

Surfside Commercial Laundry is seeking an experienced Logistics Manager to oversee transportation and delivery operations across our multiple commercial laundry locations.

Based out of our Foley, Alabama facility, this position will be responsible for the overall performance, safety, compliance, and efficiency of Surfside's transportation operations. The Logistics Manager will oversee driver routes and schedules, ensure DOT compliance, monitor fleet and driver performance, and coordinate transportation needs between our facilities and customers.

Our laundry operations depend on reliable, on-time pickup and delivery. We need a leader who can build efficient routes, hold drivers accountable, anticipate problems before they disrupt service, and create consistent transportation processes across all Surfside locations.

Previous logistics management experience is required.

Transportation & Logistics Operations

• Oversee daily transportation and logistics operations across all Surfside locations.

• Coordinate pickup and delivery schedules to ensure customers receive consistent and reliable service.

• Develop, review, and optimize driver routes for efficiency, service quality, and cost control.

• Adjust routes and schedules based on customer needs, production demands, staffing, traffic, and operational changes.

• Coordinate transportation between Surfside facilities as needed.

• Ensure adequate driver coverage for scheduled routes.

• Develop contingency plans for call-outs, vehicle breakdowns, route delays, and other service disruptions.

• Monitor daily route completion and address missed, late, or incomplete deliveries.

• Maintain clear communication between drivers, plant leadership, customer service, and operations.

DOT & Safety Compliance

• Maintain compliance with applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations.

• Monitor driver qualification requirements and maintain required documentation.

• Ensure appropriate driver's license and medical certification requirements are maintained where applicable.

• Monitor Hours of Service and required driver rest periods.

• Maintain accurate driver qualification files, vehicle records, inspection documentation, and other required compliance records.

• Ensure drivers complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.

• Monitor driver safety performance and address unsafe driving behaviors.

• Coordinate required DOT drug and alcohol testing programs where applicable.

• Assist with DOT audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.

• Stay current on transportation regulations affecting Surfside's fleet and operations.

Driver Leadership & Scheduling

• Manage driver schedules across Surfside locations.

• Ensure routes are appropriately staffed based on customer and operational requirements.

• Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training drivers.

• Train drivers on company procedures, customer service expectations, vehicle safety, and DOT requirements.

• Monitor driver attendance, route performance, productivity, safety, and professionalism.

• Coach employees and address performance or conduct concerns in coordination with Human Resources.

• Conduct regular driver meetings and safety training.

• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, reliability, and customer service.

Route Planning & Optimization

• Analyze existing routes to identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary mileage, drive time, overtime, and fuel usage.

• Build efficient routes based on customer locations, delivery windows, volume, and vehicle capacity.

• Monitor route times and compare actual performance against planned schedules.

• Evaluate opportunities to consolidate or restructure routes as customer volume changes.

• Establish measurable expectations for route efficiency and driver performance.

• Use operational data to make recommendations regarding staffing, vehicles, and route design.

Fleet Management

• Monitor the operational readiness of company vehicles.

• Coordinate preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and vehicle downtime.

• Work with maintenance providers to ensure vehicles are safe and available when needed.

• Maintain accurate fleet maintenance and service records.

• Track vehicle issues reported by drivers and ensure appropriate follow-up.

• Help determine when vehicles should be repaired, replaced, or added based on operational needs.

• Monitor vehicle utilization across locations and recommend transfers or adjustments when appropriate.

Customer Service & Operational Support

• Respond quickly to transportation issues that could affect customer service.

• Investigate missed pickups, late deliveries, damaged goods, or other transportation-related customer concerns.

• Work with plant management to coordinate production and delivery schedules.

• Communicate proactively when delays or operational issues could affect service.

• Ensure drivers represent Surfside professionally while at customer locations.

• Assist with onboarding new customer routes and significant changes to existing accounts.

Cost & Performance Management

• Monitor transportation expenses, including labor, overtime, fuel, vehicle maintenance, and other fleet-related costs.

• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency without compromising safety or customer service.

• Track transportation KPIs such as on-time delivery, route completion, overtime, vehicle downtime, accidents, and safety performance.

• Analyze trends and develop corrective action when performance falls below expectations.

• Assist leadership with transportation budgeting and fleet planning.

• Provide regular updates to leadership regarding transportation performance, risks, staffing, and operational needs.

Multi-Location Leadership

• Establish consistent transportation procedures and expectations across all Surfside locations.

• Regularly communicate with plant leadership regarding transportation needs and performance.

• Travel to other Surfside facilities as necessary to review operations, work with drivers, and resolve logistics issues.

• Identify opportunities to standardize routes, processes, training, and reporting across the organization.

• Support company growth by developing transportation systems capable of handling increased customer and production volume.

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Previous logistics, transportation, or fleet management experience.

• Demonstrated experience managing drivers, routes, and transportation schedules.

• Working knowledge of DOT transportation and driver compliance requirements.

• Experience developing or optimizing delivery routes.

• Strong leadership and employee-management skills.

• Ability to manage transportation operations across multiple locations.

• Strong organizational, scheduling, and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to respond quickly and make sound decisions when routes or deliveries are disrupted.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Comfortable using technology for scheduling, routing, reporting, and operational tracking.

• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

• Ability to travel between Surfside locations as business needs require.

Preferred:

• Logistics leadership experience in commercial laundry, linen service, distribution, manufacturing, hospitality supply, food service distribution, or another route-based operation.

• Experience managing a multi-location transportation operation.

• Experience with DOT audits and driver qualification files.

• Experience with route optimization or fleet-management software.

• Experience managing a fleet of commercial vehicles.

Compensation & Benefits

• $65,000–$75,000 annually, depending on experience.

Who Will Succeed Here

This role requires someone who can see the entire transportation operation, not simply create a driver schedule.

The successful Logistics Manager will understand how driver staffing, route design, vehicle availability, DOT compliance, production schedules, and customer expectations all affect one another. You should be comfortable reviewing data and developing processes, but equally comfortable working directly with drivers and plant managers when something goes wrong.
