Position Summary

The Used Car Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the pre-owned vehicle operation, including inventory acquisition, pricing strategy, reconditioning flow, merchandising, and overall profitability.

This role is highly impactful and directly influences dealership gross profit, inventory turn, and overall sales performance. The Used Car Manager will work closely with sales leadership, service, and acquisition teams to ensure inventory is optimized, competitive, and market-driven.

This is a leadership role for someone who understands the used car market, thrives in a fast-moving environment, and knows how to turn inventory efficiently while maximizing gross profit.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

● Oversee all used vehicle operations including acquisition, appraisal, pricing, and merchandising
● Manage used car inventory turn, aging units, and overall stock levels
● Set pricing strategy based on market data, demand trends, and competitive analysis
● Work closely with acquisition and buyer teams to source high-quality inventory
● Manage reconditioning workflow to ensure vehicles are frontline-ready quickly
● Monitor gross profit performance on all pre-owned sales
● Identify aged inventory and execute wholesale or liquidation strategies
● Ensure all vehicles are properly photographed, marketed, and listed online
● Collaborate with sales managers to align inventory with retail demand
● Maintain strong understanding of market trends, auction values, and retail pricing
● Track performance metrics including turn rate, front-end gross, and inventory aging
● Lead and develop used car team members and support staff
● Ensure compliance with dealership policies and process standards

Qualifications

● Previous experience as a Used Car Manager, Assistant Used Car Manager, or Senior Buyer required
● Strong understanding of automotive retail, pricing strategy, and market trends
● Proven ability to manage inventory turn and maximize gross profit
● Experience with inventory tools such as vAuto or similar platforms preferred
● Strong leadership and team management skills
● High level of analytical ability and attention to detail
● Strong communication and decision-making skills
● Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, performance-driven dealership environment
● Valid driver’s license required

Compensation

$55,000 – $100,000+ annually based on performance

● Performance-based structure tied to inventory performance, gross profit, and overall dealership success

Schedule

● Full-time position
● Schedule determined by dealership operational needs
