About Stellar Senior Living
Stellar Senior Living is a privately owned, family-run provider of assisted living and memory care across the Western United States. We were founded in 2012 and have grown steadily since, adding new communities to the portfolio each year. Our goal is to make life meaningfully better for more than 10,000 residents by 2030, across 60 communities.
The Opportunity
We’re hiring a Traveling Executive Director to support communities across our portfolio. This role is for a senior living leader who is comfortable working in multiple locations and is at their best walking into an unfamiliar building to figure out what it needs.
You’ll travel across our communities to fill interim Executive Director gaps, stabilize operations during transitions, and lead onboarding when we bring new buildings into the portfolio. The work is varied. Some weeks you’ll be running a community day to day. Other weeks you’ll focus on a specific need, such as sales support, operational stabilization, or onboarding a new acquisition.
Why You’ll Love Working with Us
- Competitive Compensation: Base salary of $110,000 to $140,000 per year, plus performance-based bonuses.
- Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with company match; generous PTO.
- Travel Support: Company-covered travel, lodging, and related expenses.
- Career Growth: A path into Regional Director or senior corporate roles for strong performers.
- Training and Development: Ongoing learning opportunities, tuition reimbursement, and industry development support.
- Family-Operated Company: Stellar is privately owned and family-operated. Decisions are made close to the work, and contributions are noticed.
- Meaningful Work: The communities you support are home to real people. Stable leadership during a transition makes a real difference for residents and staff.
What You’ll Do
Traveling Executive Director (Primary Role)
- Provide interim Executive Director leadership at communities across the portfolio during transitions, vacancies, or periods of acute need.
- Oversee all aspects of community operations: care quality, staffing, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and resident and family experience.
- Drive occupancy through hands-on leadership, team engagement, and quality of service rather than metrics alone.
- Stabilize and strengthen communities quickly, then build sustainable processes before transitioning out.
- Carry Stellar’s values into every community: Serve First, Build Trust, Own It, Deliver Excellence, Spread Joy.
New Community Onboarding
- Lead or support onboarding of newly acquired communities into Stellar’s systems, culture, and operating standards.
- Orient incoming leadership and department heads to Stellar’s operational model, reporting expectations, and values.
- Coordinate with corporate operations and department specialists to keep transitions on track.
Operational and Sales Flex Support
- Fill in across operations, sales, or other leadership functions as community needs arise.
- Partner with Regional Directors and corporate leadership to assess community health and prioritize support resources.
- Mentor and coach in-place teams so they can run independently after you leave.
Who We’re Looking For
You’re an experienced senior living operator who can walk into an unfamiliar community and figure out what it needs. You adjust quickly to new teams and new contexts, and you can hold the operational, financial, and cultural pieces of a building at the same time.
- Leadership: You lead by example and can build trust with a new team quickly.
- Track Record: A history of stabilizing or growing communities, hitting occupancy goals, and improving EBITDAR.
- Operational Range: You understand the full scope of senior living management, including care, staffing, compliance, hospitality, and finance.
- Relationships: You connect well with residents, families, team members, and corporate partners.
- Sales Comfort: You can step into a sales or Family Advisor role and contribute to occupancy directly.
- Comfortable with Change: You’re effective in ambiguous, fast-moving situations.
- Travel: You’re comfortable with extensive travel and prefer variety to routine.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience as an Executive Director or Administrator in assisted living, memory care, or independent living.
- Licensed Assisted Living Administrator (or ability to obtain licensure in applicable states); multi-state licensure strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage P&L, achieve occupancy goals, and lead department heads across a full community.
- Experience with new community openings or acquisitions is a significant plus.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively across the Western United States (up to 80% travel expected).
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
