Room Inspector

Schedule: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Department: Housekeeping
Reports To: Executive Housekeeper / Housekeeping Manager

Position Summary

The Room Inspector is responsible for ensuring guest rooms are clean, properly prepared, and meet hotel and Marriott brand standards prior to guest arrival. This position serves as an afternoon/evening extension of the Housekeeping Manager, completing room inspections and housekeeping-related tasks that remain outstanding after the Housekeeping Manager’s normal inspection period.

The Room Inspector will also provide additional support for late-day guest requests, including Elite Bonvoy member late checkouts, late room refreshes, and other housekeeping needs that arise throughout the afternoon and evening.

This position plays an important role in maintaining consistent room quality, supporting the housekeeping team, and ensuring guest rooms are ready to meet the hotel’s service and cleanliness standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Room Inspections

  • Complete inspections of guest rooms that have not been inspected by the Housekeeping Manager.

  • Inspect rooms for cleanliness, maintenance issues, proper setup, presentation, and overall readiness for guests.

  • Ensure rooms meet established hotel and Marriott brand standards before being released for occupancy.

  • Identify and communicate deficiencies to housekeeping staff and ensure corrections are completed.

  • Reinspect rooms after corrections when necessary.

  • Identify maintenance concerns and communicate them to the appropriate department.

  • Monitor recurring housekeeping or room-condition issues and communicate trends to the Housekeeping Manager.

Late Checkouts & Bonvoy Elite Requests

  • Complete housekeeping service for approved late checkouts, particularly Elite Bonvoy members.

  • Coordinate with the Front Desk regarding rooms with late checkouts and expected departure times.

  • Prioritize late checkout rooms appropriately so they can be cleaned and inspected as quickly as possible after departure.

  • Communicate room status updates to the Front Desk.

Late Refreshes & Guest Requests

  • Complete or coordinate late-day room refresh requests.

  • Respond to housekeeping requests from the Front Desk and guests, including additional towels, linens, amenities, trash removal, and other reasonable housekeeping needs.

  • Assist with urgent housekeeping needs that arise during the afternoon and evening.

  • Ensure guest requests are completed promptly and professionally.

Housekeeping Support

  • Assist room attendants when needed to ensure rooms are completed and inspected in a timely manner.

  • Help prioritize rooms based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, Elite member needs, and operational demands.

  • Assist with turnover of rooms when the hotel is busy or experiencing a high volume of arrivals.

  • Provide guidance and feedback to room attendants regarding cleanliness and inspection standards.

  • Help maintain consistent housekeeping standards throughout the entire shift.

Quality Assurance

  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail when inspecting rooms.

  • Check bathrooms, sleeping areas, floors, furniture, appliances, amenities, linens, and overall room presentation.

  • Verify that required guestroom amenities are properly stocked and presented.

  • Ensure rooms are free of visible cleanliness issues, damage, missing items, and obvious maintenance concerns.

  • Immediately report rooms that cannot be released due to cleanliness, maintenance, or safety concerns.

Communication

  • Maintain regular communication with the Front Desk regarding room status.

  • Communicate outstanding rooms, maintenance concerns, guest requests, and other issues to the Housekeeping Manager.

  • Ensure important information is properly documented and communicated between shifts.

  • Work closely with Front Desk and Maintenance to provide timely solutions to guestroom issues.

Guest Service Expectations

  • Demonstrate a professional, friendly, and helpful attitude toward guests and coworkers.

  • Respond promptly to guest requests and follow through until the request has been completed.

  • Understand that housekeeping directly impacts guest satisfaction and Marriott Guest Voice scores.

  • Take ownership of identified problems rather than simply passing them to another employee or department.

  • Assist in creating a clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment for every guest.

Qualifications

  • Previous hotel housekeeping, room inspection, or supervisory experience preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to identify cleanliness, maintenance, and presentation issues.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced hotel environment.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and move throughout the hotel for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and carry housekeeping supplies and other items as required.

  • Must be dependable and able to consistently work the scheduled 11:00 AM–7:00 PM shift.

Success in This Position

Success in this position means that rooms are not simply cleaned—they are inspected, corrected, and ready for the guest. The Room Inspector should help ensure that no outstanding inspection, late checkout, room refresh, or guest housekeeping request is left unresolved at the end of the day.

The position is expected to serve as the afternoon/evening housekeeping point of contact, helping maintain room quality and supporting the Front Desk and Housekeeping teams through the remainder of the operating day.

Key Performance Expectations

  • Rooms inspected and released in a timely manner.

  • Minimal rooms waiting on inspection at the end of the shift.

  • Late checkout rooms prioritized and completed promptly.

  • Late refresh and guest housekeeping requests completed in a timely manner.

  • Housekeeping deficiencies identified and corrected before rooms are released.

  • Maintenance issues properly identified and communicated.

  • Consistent compliance with hotel and Marriott cleanliness standards.

  • Positive communication and teamwork with Front Desk, Housekeeping, and Maintenance.
