Your role as a Facilities Engineer, Plumber:  

The Facilities Engineer – Plumbing is a key member of the Ballpark Engineering team and is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of the ballpark’s plumbing systems. This includes potable and non‑potable water systems, wastewater, heating hot water, irrigation, and associated mechanical equipment. 

This role supports a large, complex, publicly occupied facility and requires a high level of professionalism, attention to safety, and the ability to respond to event‑driven operational demands, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations. 

All the responsibilities we will trust you with:                                       

Plumbing Systems Operations & Maintenance 

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on domestic water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, irrigation, and related plumbing systems
  • Diagnose system deficiencies, perform leak detection, and execute effective, code‑compliant repairs
  • Maintain and repair fixtures including toilets, urinals, faucets, valves, backflow preventers, water heaters, PRVs, and pump skids
  • Service sewage ejector systems, including pump and float replacement
  • Interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications to support troubleshooting and system modifications 

Mechanical & Life Safety Support 

In addition to plumbing duties, Facilities Engineers support broader MEP and life safety systems as directed, including: 

  • Pumps, boilers, air handling units, fan‑powered terminal units, and terminal boxes
  • Sewer diverter systems (testing, adjustment, repair)
  • Life safety systems: 
    • Act as first responder to fire alarm events 
    • Assist fire department and emergency responders 
    • Support testing of fire alarm, sprinkler, and smoke/fire damper systems 

Compliance, Safety & Documentation 

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable City, State, and Federal codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations (OSHA, local AHJs, etc.)
  • Utilize CMMS to document work orders, inspections, deficiencies, and corrective actions
  • Maintain accurate plant logs, including: 
    • Boiler and mechanical room logs 
    • Chemical treatment records 
    • Time and labor tracking 
    • Contractor and access logs 
  • Prepare clear, factual incident and occurrence reports when required 

Customer Service & Collaboration 

  • Provide prompt, courteous, and professional service to internal departments, tenants, vendors, and ballpark guests
  • Coordinate effectively with food & beverage partners, contractors, and outside service providers
  • Represent the Club in a positive, solution‑oriented manner at all times 

Continuous Improvement & Team Development 

  • Proactively identify system improvements, risks, and inefficiencies 
  • Recommend cost‑effective, safe, and sustainable solutions
  • Support training, knowledge transfer, and mentorship of fellow engineers
  • Maintain a clean, professional appearance of all assigned mechanical spaces and systems
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of ballpark operations 

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most:           

  • Strong working knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and chemical treatment processes
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and safe work practices
  • Proficiency with CMMS platforms and standard computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, drawings, and specifications
  • Skilled in the use of test instruments (digital/analog meters, pressure & temperature gauges, flow and leak detection devices)
  • Working knowledge of hand tools, powered tools, ladders, scissor lifts, and boom lifts
  • Strong troubleshooting, critical‑thinking, and decision‑making skills
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in emergency situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven organizational and time‑management abilities in a fast‑paced, event‑driven environment
  • Lean, 5S, or Six Sigma experience is a plus
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, accountability, and reliability 

You will be required to meet the following:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Certified Plumbing trade school or Apprentice program completion
  • Minimum 4 years of previous Facility Maintenance and Commercial Plumbing experience
  • Able to work unsupervised on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shifts, as needed
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. This includes the ability to work baseball games, non-baseball events, and traditional office hours, whichever is needed at any given time
  • Minimum physical requirements: able to travel to and gain access to various areas of the ballpark (indoor and outdoor) for prolonged periods of time during a variety of weather situations; position requires standing 100% of the time, the ability to lift and transport 25lbs or more, climb up and down stairs and ladders, access remote work areas and confined spaces (i.e. crawl spaces, roofs, etc.), and the ability to use full range of manual dexterity (i.e.: sitting, squatting, bending, kneeling, lifting and walking)
  • As a condition of employment, you must successfully complete all post-offer, pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a background check and drug screening

Pay and additional compensation:

Per the California pay transparency law, the base hourly range for this full-time position is $37.00 - $40.00.  As a candidate for this position, your pay and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, job-related skills, and any other factors the San Diego Padres considers relevant to the hiring decision for this position.
