Salt Fork Lodge is seeking an experienced Golf Superintendent to oversee the maintenance and integrity of our golf course grounds located in Kimbolton, OH. This role requires a hands-on leader who can effectively manage staff and ensure exceptional course conditions for daily play and tournaments. The Golf Superintendent will directly supervise the Assistant Superintendent, Golf Course Grounds Crew, and Golf Mechanic, working closely with the General Manager and other departments.
Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and direct all golf maintenance activities daily.
- Assist the General Manager in preparing and monitoring the annual golf maintenance budget.
- Maintain the appearance and safety of the course by diagnosing and reporting agronomic issues.
- Manage irrigation system adjustments and scheduling.
- Maintain a wide variety of turf grasses suited to local climate conditions.
- Prepare the course for tournaments and daily play activities.
- Operate hand and power tools for mowing, edging, and cultivation.
- Integrate environmental programs specializing in Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
- Oversee maintenance of golf course equipment.
- Coordinate, schedule, and supervise capital improvement projects.
- Direct maintenance operations in accordance with contract specifications, including recruiting, training, and supervising staff.
- Maintain maintenance records and develop necessary reports.
- Track maintenance expenses such as payroll, supplies, fertilizer, chemicals, and fuel logs.
- Ensure a clean and orderly maintenance facility at all times.
- Order supplies and parts to ensure cost-effective purchases.
- Oversee seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and pest and weed control.
- Evaluate employees’ performance in a timely manner.
- Address and resolve problems and complaints professionally as they occur.
- Communicate daily with the General Manager regarding operational developments.
- Approve weekly timesheets/payroll, purchase orders, and invoices; update time and attendance sheets as needed.
- Participate in property meetings and employee functions as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR).
- Ability to work outdoors in summer temperatures and handle chemicals, solvents, detergents, fumes, smoke, and gases.
- Effective communication skills with Golf Professionals, staff, ODNR, and management.
- Knowledge of budgeting and expense management.
- Proven ability to hire and develop a motivated golf maintenance staff.
- Physical ability to repeatedly bend, stoop, push, pull, squat, reach above shoulder level, kneel, balance, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
- Familiarity with landscape and golf maintenance equipment, including operating riding mowers for up to eight hours daily.
- Sufficient mobility to perform assigned tasks within established production and service timeframes.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Highly organized, efficient, and detail oriented.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
