Parts Counter Person Job Description 

Department: Parts 

Reports to: Parts Manager or Assistant Parts Manager 

Job Summary: 

The Parts Counter Person is responsible for providing excellent customer service by assisting customers in selecting and purchasing automotive parts and supplies. This role involves taking orders, providing product information, recommending appropriate parts, and processing payments. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Customer Service: Greet customers promptly and courteously. Assist customers in identifying needed parts using parts catalogs or microfiche. 

• Sales: Promote and sell parts, labor, and whole goods services. Engage in suggestive selling to meet customer needs. 

• Inventory Management: Make necessary entries to the inventory control system, ensuring accurate records. Participate in annual physical inventory counts and parts returns to the manufacturer. 

• Order Processing: Process special order parts, receive warranty parts, and maintain stock levels. Ensure all paperwork is complete and accurate. 

• Communication: Notify the parts manager of out-of-stock parts or shop materials that need immediate attention. Communicate with customers regarding parts status and availability. 

• Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized parts counter, aisles, shelves, and shipping/receiving areas. 

• Professional Development: Stay current on new product bulletins and catalogs. Attend company functions and meetings as required. 

Qualifications: 

• Experience: Previous experience in auto parts sales or a related field is preferred. 

• Skills: Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to use parts catalogs and inventory management systems. 

• Attributes: Friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor. Attention to detail and organizational skills. 

Working Conditions: 

• Full-time position with potential for overtime. 

• May require standing for extended periods and lifting heavy parts.
