Position Title: Landscape Construction Team Leader

 

Position Overview

 

The landscape construction team leader is an experienced landscaper capable of leading and working as part of a team of two or more team members. The team leader is able to proficiently operate various equipment related to the construction and installation of landscape and hardscape elements. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to effectively delegate tasks while working as a productive team member. The team leader has a firm understanding of construction techniques and horticultural practices.

 

Responsibilities

 

  1. Reads and interprets landscaping blueprints and CAD drawings, reviews plan with designer, and implements the landscape construction plan.
  2. Operates a variety of mechanical equipment including but not limited to: back hoes, skid steers, walk behind skid steers, tillers, sod cutters, weed eaters, mowers, plant augers, chain saws, drills, etc. 
  3. Operates automatic and stick shift vehicles, such as dump trucks and truck and trailer combinations.
  4. This position is the on site lead on installing large, high end landscape construction jobs, including, but not limited to, natural stone work (flat and vertical), concrete work, masonry, pools/spas, wood working, planting, low voltage lighting, irrigation, etc.
  5. Routinely interacts with clients by way of introductions at the beginning of a job, answering questions, responding to client requests, making reasonable changes to the plan, and providing a walk-through at the job’s completion.
  6. Completes the necessary paperwork including electronic time tracking, work orders, change orders, material requisitions, and client tickets.
  7. Plans and organizes the job, ensuring that sufficient resources and materials are available. Also ensures that job is completed in the most time-efficient manner.
  8. Manages a team of two or more employees, including handling personnel issues on site and training employees on policies and procedures.
  9. Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including work site and equipment.
  10. Briefs supervisors and makes recommendations on job status, personnel issues, or client concerns.
  11. Works as a member of the team.
  12. Maintains assigned equipment and notifies mechanic/management of needed repairs.
  13. Helps with snow removal in the winter months.

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

  • This position requires a high school degree or GED. A two or four year degree in a horticultural related discipline is preferred. A minimum of 2 years landscape team leader experience is required without degree.
  • Candidate must be able to read and write.
  • The successful individual will have a working knowledge of standard horticultural and hardscaping practices including natural stone, masonry, pavers, pond, low-voltage lighting, planting, fertilization and irrigation installation and troubleshooting.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, math skills, job planning skills, and mechanical aptitude are a must.
  • Valid Ohio drivers license with a clean record. 

 

Certifications

 

This position may require that the individual become certified within one year of employment in one of the following:

  • Ohio Nursery & Landscaping Association Certification (OCNT); or PLANET Landscape Industry Certified
  • Ohio Driver's License and insurable with company's agent. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred.
  • First aid / cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

Physical Demands

The physical demands outlined are examples of the type of demands the employee will encounter on the job site. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; crouch; stoop or kneel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job are dictated by the CDL requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather (heat or cold), and moving mechanical equipment. In addition, job sites are located on both residential and commercial property. The employee may also occasionally be exposed to the homeowner’s pets.

 

Working Relationships

 

The employee will work closely with members of the team, landscape designers, other team leaders, department heads, and clients.
