Human Resources Generalist
The Human Resources Generalist provides comprehensive, hands-on HR support across multiple functional areas, including employee relations, benefits administration, leave management, workers' compensation, compliance, training, employee records, and HR reporting.
This role partners closely with employees, managers, and HR leadership to support day-to-day HR operations and ensure consistent application of company policies and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements. The HR Generalist plays an important role in maintaining an organized, compliant, and positive workplace while delivering a high level of service to employees.
Pay: $65,000–$70,000/year
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & HR Support

Serve as a trusted HR resource for employees and managers, providing guidance on company policies, procedures, performance management, attendance, and workplace concerns.

Support employee relations matters, including workplace investigations, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and terminations, ensuring consistency and appropriate documentation.

Conduct exit interviews and maintain termination reporting and analytics to identify trends and provide insights to HR leadership.

Support employee engagement and company culture initiatives.

Coordinate company-sponsored employee events, flu shot clinics, and other employee programs and activities.
Leave Administration & Compliance
-
Manage the full-cycle administration of FMLA and other applicable employee leave programs, including employee notifications, eligibility, documentation, certification tracking, designation, follow-up, and return-to-work coordination.

Track and follow up on I-9 documentation, employment authorization, and visa expiration and renewal requirements to support ongoing employment eligibility compliance.

Coordinate required annual harassment prevention training, including scheduling, employee communication, completion tracking, documentation, and follow-up.

Maintain accurate employee records and documentation in accordance with company policies and applicable record-retention requirements.

Stay informed of changes in employment laws and HR compliance requirements and communicate relevant updates to HR leadership.
Workers' Compensation, OSHA & Safety Administration
-
Manage full-cycle workers' compensation administration, including incident intake, claim reporting, employee and carrier communication, documentation, claim follow-up, return-to-work coordination, and claim status tracking.

Coordinate and maintain required OSHA reporting and recordkeeping, including applicable logs, incident documentation, and reporting requirements.

Partner with management, employees, insurance carriers, and other appropriate parties throughout the workers' compensation process.

Support workplace safety initiatives and related compliance activities.

Coordinate and track Material Handling Equipment (MHE) certifications, including three-year certification requirements and annual reviews, ensuring records remain current and employees complete required renewals.
Benefits & 401(k) Administration

Coordinate employee benefit enrollments and changes, including new hire benefit enrollment.

Conduct benefits meetings for new hires, explaining available plans, enrollment requirements, deadlines, and available resources.

Serve as a resource for employee benefit questions and assist employees with navigating enrollment and benefit-related processes.

Manage 401(k) enrollments and related employee communications and administrative follow-up.

Coordinate and conduct 401(k) informational and enrollment meetings for eligible employees.

Partner with benefit and retirement plan vendors as needed to resolve employee questions and administrative issues.

Support annual open enrollment activities, employee communications, meetings, and enrollment follow-up.
Employment Records, Background Recertification & HR Administration
-
Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data and ensure required documentation remains current and complete.
-
Manage the company's background recertification process, including two-year background rechecks, tracking due dates, coordinating required screenings, and maintaining appropriate documentation.

Monitor compliance-related expiration dates and proactively communicate with employees and managers regarding required renewals.

Generate standard and ad hoc HR reports and maintain HR tracking tools as needed.
Unemployment Claims

Manage Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) unemployment claim responses, including gathering documentation, preparing timely responses, and maintaining appropriate records.

Represent and/or support the company during TWC unemployment phone hearings, including preparing relevant documentation and coordinating with appropriate managers and HR leadership.

Track unemployment claims, determinations, and outcomes and identify trends or recurring issues.
Training & Development
-
Coordinate required employee compliance training and maintain accurate training records.

Administer annual harassment prevention training and follow up with employees and managers to ensure timely completion.

Support additional employee and leadership training initiatives as assigned.
HR Reporting & Continuous Improvement
-
Track and analyze HR metrics, including turnover, terminations, absenteeism, leave activity, workers' compensation, unemployment claims, benefits participation, and other HR operational metrics.

Prepare exit interview and termination analytics to identify trends, areas of concern, and opportunities for improved employee retention.

Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, documentation, compliance tracking, and the overall employee experience.

Provide HR leadership with accurate reports, observations, and recommendations based on HR data and employee trends.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

3–5 years of progressive Human Resources experience in a Generalist or similar HR operations role.
-
Hands-on experience with employee relations, benefits administration, FMLA/leave administration, workers' compensation, and HR compliance preferred.

Experience handling unemployment claims and hearings preferred.

Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, packaging, or industrial environment preferred.
Skills & Abilities

Solid understanding of HR practices and applicable federal and state employment laws.

Working knowledge of FMLA, workers' compensation, OSHA recordkeeping, I-9/employment eligibility requirements, unemployment claims, benefits administration, and 401(k) administration.

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate, confidential employee records.

Excellent organizational, time-management, follow-up, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple deadlines and compliance requirements in a fast-paced environment.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to prepare reports, identify trends, and communicate findings.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems such as ADP, UKG, or similar platforms.
Certifications

HR certification such as PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar certification preferred.
Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
