Position Summary

The GIS Agent supports oil and gas land, title, and operations teams by creating, maintaining, and analyzing geospatial data related to mineral ownership, leases, wells, pipelines, units, and surface features. This role plays a critical part in visualizing complex land and title data, ensuring spatial accuracy, and supporting decision-making across projects.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, edit, and maintain GIS maps and spatial datasets related to:
    • Mineral ownership and leasehold interests
    • Wells, permits, units, and pooled tracts
    • Pipelines, ROWs, surface locations, and facilities
  • Digitize legal descriptions, plats, surveys, and tract boundaries from deeds, leases, and title documents
  • Integrate title, land, and regulatory data into GIS platforms
  • Perform spatial analysis to support land acquisition, title review, due diligence, and development planning
  • Ensure GIS data accuracy, consistency, and alignment with title and land records
  • Collaborate with landmen, title abstractors, project managers, and clients to support active projects
  • Maintain metadata and documentation for GIS layers and datasets
  • Produce high-quality maps, exhibits, and visual reports for internal use and client deliverables
  • Update GIS data based on project changes, new filings, or corrected title information
  • Follow company SOPs, data standards, and confidentiality requirements
  • Perform necessary document research using third party resources when provided information is scarce

 

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with GIS software (ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or similar platforms)
  • Working knowledge of oil and gas land concepts, including:
    • Legal descriptions
    • Mineral and royalty ownership
    • Leases, units, and pooling
    • Wells and surface locations
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Strong experience in working in DJ Basin CO
  • Ability to interpret deeds, plats, surveys, and title documents
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently while meeting project deadlines

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in oil and gas land, title, or right-of-way projects
  • Familiarity with courthouse records and regulatory data (e.g., state oil & gas commissions)
  • Experience supporting multi-county or multi-state projects
  • Knowledge of spatial databases and data management best practices
