Production Supervisor

 

Production Supervisor is accountable for monitoring the manufacturing activities affianced in production, batching and processing. They are responsible for production and compounding in accordance with product specifications, time schedules, quality standards, and employee safety. They plan, organize, delegate, and direct the manufacturing activities to maintain output and production sequence in compliance with goals of the company.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

LEADERSHIP & PROCESSING OBJECTIVES

  • Lead the Compounding Team to accomplish production and quality targets.
    • This includes review and execution of the production schedule.
    • Maintain work flow by monitoring steps of the process; observing control points and equipment.
  • Establish and enforce specific and consistent work procedures to satisfy production needs as a team within own department as well as with the other shift supervisors.
    • Resolve any processing issues, creating and ensuring the execution of correct action.
  • Assign job functions to individuals within the department and supervise their performance of jobs.
    • Communicate job expectations, monitor job performance and appraise job results.
    • Provide coaching and training, and set departmental expectations and goals.
    • Initiate and foster a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
  • Provide technical expertise and ongoing training to team members.
  • Prior to batch release, review data on screen to confirm that all required raw materials have been added and confirmation of lot codes.
  • Communicate with Plant Manager and additional departments when necessary informing them of any difficulties in production or quality concerns.  Collaborate with these teams to deliver results.
  • Train a qualified assistant so that in your absence, all supervisory functions can be performed
  • Analyze and resolve problems at work as a fellow member of the manufacturing production crew.
  • When applicable, help resolve personnel problems by investigating issues, identifying solutions and recommending action.
  • Understand and communicate company policies and safety guidelines to workers.
  • Conduct formal performance evaluations annually.
    • Use this as an opportunity to reinforce goals and objectives.  Review with the employee their strengths and areas of opportunity for them to learn and improve.
  • Enforce company policies and departmental requirements in a consistent manner.
    • This may include disciplinary actions and interaction with the HR department.
    • This includes interaction with Safety and Training Department to confirm that your team has completed all required training courses.
  • Suggest and drive changes in the workplace:  Lead your team to increase the overall efficiency of the production operation.
 

 

EQUIPMENT AND PREPARATION OBJECTIVES

  • Perform a pre-op inspection of all staged raw materials to confirm accuracy prior to production.
  • Examine batches to validate conformance to formula, specifications and authorization of any necessary adjustments of batch or equipment.
  • Ensure safe and consistent operation of equipment.  This may include notifying maintenance of necessary repairs.  This may include evaluating new equipment and processes and also giving feedback.

SAFETY & GMP OBJECTIVES

  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all equipment and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all company safety policies and procedures as well as complying with all OSHA rules and regulations (THINK “SAFETY FIRST”).
    • Ability to fully complete appropriate paperwork related to specific job functions in addition to quality and safety/training.
    • Ability to recognize unsafe acts and conditions in the facility and implement appropriate corrective actions.
    • Ability to utilize SharePoint and email to input and complete correctives actions and communicate with other department/shifts.
    • Ability to check emails regularly and respond accordingly if necessary.
    • Ensuring that all personnel reporting to them complete the appropriate annual trainings.
    • Ability to recognize and report all incidents; even those that do not warrant treatment.
    • Ability to conduct appropriate accident/incident investigation reporting.
  • Review and execute our Food Safety Plan and MFP Mission Statement in order to provide value to each of our customers with safe, relevant, tasty food products; while never compromising quality.
  • Adhere to good manufacturing practices (GMP’s) including proper waste disposal, attire, grooming and hygiene, etc.

OTHER

  • Participate in the daily staff meeting.
    • Utilize this forum to share any ideas or concerns that your department has.
    • Share information with your team members that was communicated at the daily staff meeting.
  • Have quarterly meetings with your team.
    • Share information with your team about current events, training obligations, departmental issues, upcoming audits, etc. 
    • Listen and address any concerns your team may have.  When ideas or concerns are presented, use SharePoint to communicate those concerns.

Production Supervisor is supported and backed up by the Lead Production team member and/or Assistant Foreman.  Suitable training is required of this individual.

Production Supervisor reports to the Plant Manager.
