The technician combines mechanical and electrical troubleshooting with responsive customer service and works independently and with service, engineering, and project teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, align, adjust, and service heavy-duty door assemblies, automatic operators, drive components, tracks, bearings, safety sensors, and related controls.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system problems using technical drawings, wiring diagrams, diagnostic tools, and manufacturer instructions.
  • Troubleshoot motors, sensors, switches, wiring, safety interlocks, and linear motion systems; replace or repair components within the scope of training and authorization.
  • Check door movement, alignment, operating cycles, and safety device functionality before returning equipment to service; document unresolved issues and escalate unsafe conditions.
  • Coordinate site access, service schedules, and equipment downtime with customers and internal teams, with attention to clinical operations and patient care.
  • Explain findings, recommended repairs, and proper equipment operation to customers; provide clear updates on service progress and follow-up needs.
  • Complete accurate electronic service reports, inspection results, parts usage, time records, and travel expenses; communicate recurring failures and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain tools, test instruments, service parts, and assigned equipment in safe working order; support service planning and parts replenishment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by service leadership, consistent with training and qualifications.

Safety and Site Practices

  • Follow applicable safety requirements, manufacturer procedures, and customer site rules, including hazardous energy control, electrical safety, safe lifting, fall protection, and required personal protective equipment.
  • Perform electrical work, welding, powered equipment operation, and elevated work only when trained and authorized and when any required credentials are held. Never bypass safety devices or release unsafe equipment for use.
  • Coordinate with authorized facility personnel before work affecting shielding or radiation-controlled areas; follow access restrictions, infection prevention measures, and site-specific work permits. Report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience with automatic doors, industrial equipment, electromechanical systems, or comparable equipment.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical service manuals and use hand tools, power tools, and electrical diagnostic instruments safely.
  • Strong problem-solving, organization, communication, and customer service skills; ability to work independently and coordinate with customers and internal teams.
  • Ability to use electronic service reporting, email, and mobile or computer applications to document work accurately.
  • Ability to meet the extensive travel requirements and drive to customer sites; valid driver’s license and driving record meeting company requirements.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach training completion required; task-specific and site-specific safety training must also be completed as applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical certificate or associate degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, or automation technology.
  • Experience with radiation-shielded or RF-shielded doors, automatic door safety systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and related controls.
  • Familiarity with applicable ANSI/BHMA automatic door standards and manufacturer inspection and adjustment procedures.
  • Welding experience and relevant forklift, aerial lift, first aid, or CPR training.

Travel and Work Schedule

Approximately 90% travel is required, including frequent overnight and out-of-state trips, extended driving, and time away from home. Service schedules may require early starts, evenings, weekends, or extended hours to meet customer access windows and minimize downtime. Work occurs in healthcare, industrial, construction, and occasional outdoor environments, with potential exposure to moving machinery, electrical and stored energy, noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Required protective equipment and site controls must be used. Reasonable accommodations are available to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.

Compensation

Hourly pay range: $28.85 to $36.06.
Final compensation will reflect relevant experience, technical skills, qualifications, and work location. This is a nonexempt position; overtime is paid in accordance with applicable law. Approved business travel expenses are reimbursed under company policy.
