The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Position

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing the company’s fleet of heavy equipment, diesel engines, and heavy trucks, including excavators, loaders, dozers, and related construction equipment. The position performs preventative maintenance, diagnoses mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine issues, and performs welding and fabrication as needed. 

 

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is expected to identify potential equipment issues, minimize downtime, and maintain a high standard of safety and quality while staying current with evolving equipment and diagnostic technologies. The ideal candidate takes pride in their craft and is committed to continuously improving their skills and the way they work while living up to Merlo’s Value Statement of “What got us here, won’t get us there!”

 

Experience, Skills, and Abilities of the Heavy Equipment Mechanic

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years of hands-on experience repairing heavy equipment and/or diesel engines
  • Experience with multiple equipment manufacturers and diagnostic platforms
  • ASE certifications preferred
  • CDL preferred, or willingness to obtain CDL within 12 months of hire
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 100lbs
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
