Director of Nursing, DON

Join our team at Maple Lawn Senior Care! Our Director of Nursing position is a full-time position that offers employee benefits. This position is Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, weekends based on RN on-call schedule.

Will be responsible to fluctuate office hours with floor hours based on census, admissions, discharges. This position includes being on the RN on-call schedule, as well as being lead on the nursing department as a whole. Position may include other duties based on organizational needs, if necessary.

Job Summary:

The Director of Nursing is responsible for operational functions of the nursing department. Essential duties include, but are not limited to;

• Direct & monitor the nursing care provided to all residents.
• Organize audit procedures if constituted, as well as implement change as needed.
• Direct and maintain accurate medical records for each resident as professionally appropriate and as required by government rule. Ensure medical records are accurate and credible.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures for the nursing department.
• Maintain close communication with administrator and all other departments.
• Review applicants, interview, hire, orientate, assign, supervise, evaluate, discipline, and terminate nursing employees in accordance with facility personnel policy. Ensure nursing employees are competent in their skills and can perform according to facility policies and procedures.
• Monitor and direct activity related to Resident Assessments, Staff Development, and Medicare documentation.
• Directs the care plan processes as a team leader.
• Actively participate in planning and budgeting for the Nursing Department.
• Coordinate consultant pharmacist reviews.
• Coordinate physician visit schedules and consult with physicians on resident care, medication reviews, and mental health issues.
• Assure close communication with families on changes in resident conditions or other resident related issues.
• Serves on various committees as assigned by administrator.
• Directs Infection Control efforts of the facility.
• May occasionally fulfill some duties of or function as a staff nurse (see RN position description). This includes weekend, evening, overnight, and holiday rotations.
• Responsible for following company safety rules.
• Maintain a safe, homelike environment where residents feel comfortable.
• Perform duties according to company policies and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Oversee or execute nursing schedules to fulfill resident’s needs.
• Ensure prior-authorizations for insurance are completed before or upon admission.
• Offer support and guidance to other leadership RN’s; ADON, MDS Coordinator, Infection Control, etc.

Expected to be part of the Interdisciplinary Team and Quality Assurance Committee. Must show knowledge of technology such as computers, Excel, Word, etc. 

Qualifications:

Must possess an active MN Registered Nurse License.

Three years of experience preferred.

Leadership and management experience, preferred.
