Job Summary:
The Used Car Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and performing repairs on pre-owned vehicles to ensure they meet dealership and manufacturer standards. This role plays a critical part in reconditioning vehicles for resale while maintaining high-quality workmanship and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Inspection & Diagnosis:
• Perform multi-point inspections on used vehicles to assess overall condition.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and safety-related issues accurately.
• Identify required repairs and recommend necessary reconditioning.
Repair & Maintenance:
• Perform a wide range of repairs and maintenance tasks, including brakes, suspensions, engines, transmissions, A/C systems, and electrical components.
• Conduct oil changes, fluid flushes, filter replacements, tire rotations, and alignments as needed.
• Complete warranty and recall repairs following manufacturer guidelines.
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety and quality standards.
Documentation & Communication:
• Accurately document inspection findings and repair work in the dealership’s repair order system.
• Communicate repair recommendations to the Service Manager or Used Car Manager.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment in compliance with OSHA and dealership policies.
Quality Control & Compliance:
• Road-test vehicles to ensure proper operation after repairs.
• Ensure compliance with manufacturer, dealership, and state safety regulations.
• Follow all environmental and disposal regulations for automotive fluids and materials.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Automotive Technician Certification (ASE) preferred but not required.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience as an automotive technician (preferably in used cars).
• Experience with various makes and models is a plus.
Skills & Abilities:
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with automotive tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
