Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) Registered Nurse ( RN )

As an NICU RN, you will:
- Deliver specialized nursing care to premature, critically ill, and medically complex newborns in a high-acuity Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) during a 13-week contract assignment.
- Perform comprehensive neonatal assessments, continuously monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygen saturation, respiratory status, and other clinical indicators, and promptly recognize and respond to changes in condition.
- Administer IV medications, antibiotics, fluids, blood products, and other prescribed therapies using weight-based dosing and neonatal-specific protocols while maintaining strict medication safety standards.
- Operate and monitor specialized neonatal equipment, including incubators, radiant warmers, ventilators, CPAP systems, cardiac and oxygen saturation monitors, infusion pumps, and other life-support equipment.
- Provide developmentally appropriate care to premature and critically ill infants, including thermoregulation, feeding support, positioning, skin care, and maintenance of a safe and supportive environment.
- Collaborate with neonatologists, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, lactation consultants, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized plans of care.
- Monitor and manage enteral and parenteral nutrition, feeding tubes, IV access, and fluid balance while closely observing for complications and changes in patient status.
- Provide education, emotional support, and compassionate communication to parents and families regarding their infant's condition, treatment plan, and ongoing care needs.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic documentation, follow infection prevention and patient safety standards, and adhere to NICU policies and evidence-based neonatal care practices.
- Arrive on time and prepared for all scheduled shifts while maintaining professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail in a highly specialized clinical environment.
- Participate in continuing education and maintain required certifications, competencies, and documentation to remain in compliance with facility and professional standards.
A few must-haves for ICU RNs:
- Active RN or Compact license within the state of Indiana
- Active Certifications Required: BLS through the American Heart Association
- NRP- Neonatal Resuscitation Certificate
- 2 years of recent and related NICU experience, as required by the facility
- Must be able to work independently, yet together as part of a team
- Must be able to remain calm under pressure
- Active BLS, physical, TB test, and other medical compliance as required by the facility
