As a Home Health Licensed Practical Nurse, here’s a big-picture view of what you’ll do:
- Provide the personal care to patients with illnesses, injuries and chronic diseases under the supervision of an RN
- Ventilator-dependent patient care and respiratory monitoring
- Tracheostomy and airway care, including suctioning
- G-tube care and enteral feeding
- Medication administration
- Bladder scanning and catheterization
- Monitoring vital signs and changes in condition
- Total-care assistance with ADLs and personal care
- Skin integrity monitoring and pressure-injury prevention
- Positioning, transfers, and range-of-motion exercises
- Accurate and timely nursing documentation
- Communication with the RN, physician, family, and healthcare team
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in the patient's condition and follow emergency protocols
- May receive supply of ordered medications and apportion or assemble drugs for administration to patient.
- May record and restock medication inventories
A few must-haves for Home Health Licensed Practical Nurses:
- Current and unrestricted Maryland LPN license
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Strong clinical experience in complex or total-care nursing
- Previous experience with ventilator-dependent patients is strongly preferred
- Experience with G-tubes, tracheostomy care, suctioning, bladder scanning, and catheterization
- Excellent assessment, communication, and documentation skills
- Dependable, compassionate, professional, and comfortable working independently in a home-care environment
- Knowledge of state and federal home health regulations
- Clinical proficiency in nursing, strong communication skills and compassion
