The General Sales Manager (GSM) is responsible for overseeing the Sales team to achieve sales goals, manage daily operations and ensure high level of customer satisfaction. They will develop and implement effective sales strategies, monitor performance, and work closely with other departments to enhance overall dealership success. The GSM will supervise, hire and train sales team, and acquire or order new and used vehicles.
Sales manager may be required to:
- Establish measurable performance goals using gross and net profits, unit sales, etc. for monthly, quarterly and annual targets.
- Inspire and motivate team to attain sales goals.
- Evaluate each team member’s performance and productivity.
- Use merchandising and displays to promote sales of new and used vehicles.
- Develop sales campaigns, and monitor factory-sponsored programs.
- Review budgets, market and sales projections.
- Attend manager meetings.
- Coordinate activities between sales and other departments.
In addition, sales manager should:
- Possess basic math skills.
- Be capable of speaking with customers or employees; reading/understanding manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, and safety regulations; and writing financial/marketing reports and other correspondence.
- Be professional and courteous in attitude, wardrobe and grooming.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive sales, preferably in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of achieving sales targets.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in sales techniques with the ability to train subordinate staff.
- Knowledge of automotive industry trends and best practices.
