The Marketing and Communications Manager is vital to the successful operation of Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity. A successful candidate would be expected to uphold the Values of Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity:

The Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for leading, developing, and implementing strategic marketing and communication efforts to elevate the mission of Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity. This role promotes awareness, engagement, fundraising, and volunteerism through multi-channel marketing strategies while maintaining brand consistency for our Holland affiliate and ReStore (Holland and South Haven).

 

Marketing & Communications Manager primary duties may include: 

Marketing & Branding

 

  • Develop and execute an annual marketing and communications plan that aligns with organizational goals.
  • Oversee brand consistency across all print, digital, and event materials.
  • Create compelling campaigns to support fundraising events, ReStore promotions, volunteer recruitment, and homeownership programs.
  • Manage production of promotional materials (flyers, banners, postcards, etc.).

 

Digital Communications & Social Media

 

  • Manage and grow the affiliate’s digital presence, including website, email newsletters, and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Create and schedule content that promotes events, stories, impact statistics, and donor/volunteer spotlights.
  • Monitor engagement and analytics to improve performance and outreach.

 

Public Relations & Storytelling

 

  • Serve as the primary media contact; write and distribute press releases.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local media outlets and community influencers.
  • Gather and share homeowner, volunteer, and donor stories to demonstrate impact.
  • Coordinate photography and videography for key events and builds.

 

Event Marketing Support

 

  • Support event planning and execution through marketing and promotion (e.g., golf outings, donor receptions, Rock the Block, Women Build).
  • Design event signage, programs, and social media graphics.
  • Capture photos and content during events for future storytelling.

 

Internal Communication & Collaboration

 

  • Work collaboratively with Development, Volunteer, ReStore and Construction teams to align messaging and timing of communication efforts.
  • Assist with donor and volunteer recognition communications.
  • Train and support staff on brand guidelines and messaging consistency.
  • Supervise internships related to marketing and communication.

 

 Our idea candidate would have most of the following experiences and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or related field or 3+ years of professional experience in marketing or communications.
  • Demonstrated experience in building strong business, marketing vendor, and media connections in Lakeshore Habitat’s Service Area (Ottawa, Allegan and Van Buren Counties).
  • Demonstrated project management experience, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and drive projects from concept to completion.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Strong ability to work independently, a self-starter.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a creative eye for engaging content across print and digital platforms.
  • High proficiency in graphic design with experience using Canva and the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). A strong portfolio of design work is a plus.
  • Creative thinker with a keen eye for visual branding, layout, and design aesthetics that align with Lakeshore Habitat’s mission and voice.
  • Proficiency in social media strategy, management, and content creation, as well as managing email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp).
  • Familiarity with website content management systems.
  • Photography and/or video editing skills preferred.
  • High level of commitment to the “people” side of the Habitat mission.

 

Additional Information: 

This position will require occasional local travel along the lakeshore (Ottawa, Allegan, and Van Buren counties), as well as evening or weekend hours for special events.
