Pay

  • $16.75–$21.75 per hour

  • Pay based on experience and certification

Shifts Available

  • 1st Shift: 6:00am–2:30pm

  • 2nd Shift: 2:00pm–10:30pm

  • 3rd Shift: 10:00pm–6:30am

Position Purpose

The Medication Technician (Med Tech) is responsible for the timely, accurate, and safe administration of resident medications in the memory care setting according to licensed health care professional orders. This position ensures that each resident’s personal care and service plan is followed while treating residents with dignity and respect and supporting independence whenever possible.


Qualifications

  • CNA, CENA, Medical Assistant (MA), LPN, or other related credential or experience

  • Minimum age of 18 years

  • Competency-trained in proper medication administration

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing

  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position physically and mentally


Essential Functions

  • Administer medications accurately and timely as ordered by licensed health care professionals

  • Document medication administration accurately in the eMAR system

  • Follow proper protocols for reporting medication-related concerns

  • Count, document, and manage medication inventory, including narcotics and controlled substances

  • Reorder medications timely to ensure residents do not miss doses

  • Maintain a clean and organized medication cart and medication room

  • Comply with eMAR requirements, including proper Chromebook use and charging

  • Communicate routinely with licensed health care professionals, pharmacy, hospice, home health agencies, and resident family members

  • Document all communication related to resident care and medication changes

  • Respond to resident requests for assistance, including call lights

  • Observe residents for changes in physical, emotional, cognitive, or behavioral condition

  • Communicate changes in resident condition to the supervisor

  • Assist residents in maintaining the highest level of independence possible

  • Comply with infection control protocols

  • Treat all residents with dignity and respect

  • Provide care and service in accordance with individual care and service plans

  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals of the living center


General Responsibilities

  • Act as a goodwill ambassador for the living center

  • Comply with Life Safety policies and participate in required drills

  • Assist residents with meals and life enrichment activities as needed

  • Participate in required training opportunities

  • Report safety and health hazards to the supervisor

  • Assist with dining room service as needed

  • Comply with Homes for the Aged rules and regulations

  • Work cooperatively with coworkers, supervisors, and staff across shifts

  • Report to work on time and as scheduled

  • Maintain resident confidentiality and comply with Resident Rights

  • Follow Employee Handbook guidelines


Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, squat, kneel, push, and pull for extended periods

  • Ability to push and pull a medication cart

  • Ability to assist residents with showers, toileting, transfers, and personal care

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with residents, coworkers, and supervisors

  • Ability to comprehend written and verbal instructions, including medication orders

  • Emotional stability to support residents with chronic illness, dementia-related behaviors, challenging situations, and end-of-life care
