Job Summary:
Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Prep Cook to join our culinary team. The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients and assisting in the execution of high-quality dishes, ensuring a smooth and efficient kitchen operation. This role is integral in maintaining the standards of excellence that define our resort’s dining experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and portion ingredients including chopping vegetables, butchering meat, and preparing sauces.
  • Set up and stock stations with necessary supplies before each shift.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of food preparation areas, ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Assist with basic cooking tasks under the guidance of chefs.
  • Properly store food items in designated areas to prevent spoilage.
  • Monitor and report inventory levels, ensuring ingredients are stocked and rotated according to FIFO (First In, First Out) guidelines.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the Executive Chef.
  • Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure timely and efficient service.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and resort policies.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Prep Cook or in a similar role preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen operations, food safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Strong knife skills and familiarity with basic cooking techniques.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Flexible schedule, including availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of items up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a hot and humid environment.
  • Repetitive motions such as chopping, stirring, and reaching.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and move quickly in a fast-paced kitchen setting.

Pay Range and Compensation Package:

  • $19.00 - $21.40 per hour based on experience
