The Field Museum’s Keller Science Action Center translates museum science and expertise into action for conservation and quality of life. The Field Guides Coordinator works in the Conservation Tools program and is responsible for the production of Field Guides, one of the Action Center’s founding efforts to translate museum science into advances for conservation. The Field Guides initiative has resulted in more than 1000 guides on plants and wildlife in over 40 countries, with half a million downloads each year for use in conservation efforts. The Field Guides Coordinator position is responsible for: 1) Supporting guides production and publication, 2) Coordinating efforts to optimize user experience of the Field Guides websites through monitoring and developing written and visual content, and 3) Supporting, developing, and maintaining collaborations with a variety of local and international partners. This position reports to the Field Guides Senior Coordinator.

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Produce and publish Field Guides online
  • Support communication efforts and public relations outreach strategies by creating relevant, original, high-quality digital and print marketing content for Field Guides
  • Coordinate tracking and production of Center-wide Field Guide printing requests
  • Work closely with IT to plan, implement, manage, monitor, and develop content for the Field Guides Initiative website
  • Produce print and video tutorials and visual assets to make the Field Guides website more user-friendly
  • Conduct content audits to eliminate redundant and/or duplicate information
  • Regularly work to improve the user experience of the website
  • Create statistical reports on website usage, production, and other relevant information

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Website Design, Biological or Social Sciences, Library and Information Science or five years of equivalent experience
  • Experience working with Microsoft Windows, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and In-Design
  • Fluent writer and speaker of Spanish and English
  • Proficient in database or spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Google sheets)
  • Experience with, or interest in learning, database management
  • Interest in nature and working in the field of environmental conservation
  • Experience with Drupal, Google Analytics, and interest in learning other platforms.

This position will begin in a hybrid set-up, working both remotely and on-site. At this time, the museum is considering hybrid plans for the future for positions that are able to do remote work.
