Partners for Rural Transformation (PRT) Communications Intern

The Partners for Rural Transformation (PRT) consists of six regional CDFIs, HOPE Enterprises, Fahe, cdcb | come dream. come build (cdcb), Oweesta Corporation, Communities Unlimited and RCAC.  Collectively these organizations are working to change the narrative about rural persistent poverty areas of the country, and to change the way resources flow to these regions.  The group has been funded by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to develop a strategic plan and strong working partnership to carry out this work.  The Project Manager will become an employee of Fahe, but does not need to live in Appalachia. 

Job Summary:

This position is 100% remote. The primary role of the Summer Communications Intern will be to engage and assist in activities, events, and efforts related to the communicative interests of PRT and its Partners. The intern chosen will work together and interact with PRT’s Communication Working Group in monthly meetings and take on related Comms projects as needed. The intern will meet with the Communications Project Manager weekly to discuss progress, questions, or concerns. They will also be expected to be passionate about communications in social media, marketing, graphic design, writing, etc., rural America, and community development.

Essential Duties and Functions:

  • Designing social media content, from infographics to videos and more
  • Support in the updating and maintenance of posting and event calendars
  • Daily media monitoring to track important breaking industry stories, along with reporting key information to Communications Project Manager
  • Recording minutes/notes for each Communications Working Group Meeting
  • Assisting in managing the Buffer site, which is responsible for the scheduling and posting of most PRT social media content
  • Helping in writing/drafting/editing all external PRT communications content, such as press releases, newsletters, article series, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Working Group on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications
  • Monitoring social media site performance across all channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram)
  • Assist as needed on the Communications and Fund Development Research project (communication between organizations, data collection, etc.)
  • Assist as needed on Everything Else: Stories of Rural America story map (story collection, interview transcribing, etc.)

Requirements for this position include:

  • Able to work well with a team
  • Proficient understanding and experience with MS Office Suite (primarily Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Interest in social media management and digital communications
  • Enthusiastic and curious attitude
  • Understanding of the complexities facing persistent poverty areas (PPAs) & rural America

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Currently working towards obtaining Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (mass communications, marketing, sociology, etc.)
