Job Summary:

This position will be100% remote. The primary role of the Summer (May – August 2024) Advocacy & Policy Intern will be to assist in activities, events and efforts related to legislative interests of PRT and it’s six partners. The Intern selected will network and collaborate with members of PRT’s Advocacy and Policy Working Group in monthly meetings; as well as work on individual projects and tasks as needed from the group or Advocacy Senior Manager. Intern will be responsible for tracking activities for future purposes and interests. The intern will be expected to report to Senior Advocacy & Research Manager weekly to discuss progress. Intern will be expected to have a passion and curiosity for Advocacy, rural America and professional and community development.

Essential Duties and Functions:

  • Research current events and current legislation related to PRT, PRT’s partner interests; and PRT service areas
  • Take notes for all monthly Advocacy & Policy meetings and other meetings as needed
  • Accommodate to all 6 PRT partners when completing deliverables
  • Communicate and collaborate with members of Advocacy & Policy working group and other PRT working groups to accomplish tasks
  • Listen to congressional hearing live streams and report back with synopsis
  • Summarize newly introduced legislation and analyze if it aligns with PRT and Partners
  • Be an active participant in meetings
  • Track past and current deliverables, files, tasks and progress of PRT advocacy efforts through the Project Management Office (PMO) in Monday.com
  • Collaborate with other PRT working groups as needed (Fund Development, Research, Lending & Communications)
  • Ensure tasks assigned to group are progressing in a timely manner
  • Report progress weekly to Senior Manager of Advocacy & Research

  • Understanding of the complexities facing persistent poverty areas (PPAs) & rural America, or a passion to learn to better understand

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Currently working towards obtaining Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in related field
