GIS Coordinator - Systems Engineering
Role Summary:
The GIS Coordinator will oversee and coordinate all GIS-related processes that support streetlight asset management and infrastructure planning. This role focuses on managing workflows, ensuring data quality across systems, coordinating subcontractors, and tracking project progress. While a foundational understanding of GIS analysis is important, the primary emphasis is on process coordination, data governance, and team collaboration to ensure accurate and timely updates across platforms.
Job Responsibilities:
Project and Process Coordination

Coordinate and oversee GIS-related workflows across internal teams and subcontractors.

Monitor progress on GIS data updates, deliverables, and reporting milestones to ensure deadlines are met.

Establish and maintain standardized procedures for data submission, review, and approval.

Serve as the main point of contact for subcontractors handling GIS tasks, providing guidance and tracking performance.

Facilitate communication between GIS, engineering, and operations teams to align on priorities and deliverables.
Database and Systems Management

Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and compliance with organizational standards.

Coordinate periodic data audits and validation efforts to maintain data integrity.

Track and verify GIS updates impacting other systems and coordinate resolution of discrepancies.
Reporting and Progress Tracking

Develop and maintain tracking dashboards to monitor GIS task completion, project progress and billing.

Compile regular reports summarizing GIS data status, project milestones, and subcontractor performance.
Mapping and GIS Support

Oversee the production and maintenance of maps that display streetlight locations, conditions, and service areas using QGis, ArcGIs Pro and others.

Support GIS analysis or visualization tasks as needed to assist planning or reporting.

Coordinate with GIS specialists or subcontractors for more complex spatial analyses and mapping needs.
Training and Technical Oversight

Train and support team members and subcontractors on GIS data standards, workflows, and quality requirements.

Identify opportunities for process improvement or automation to enhance efficiency and consistency.

Stay informed about new GIS tools and technologies and recommend improvements where beneficial.
Documentation and Compliance

Maintain documentation of GIS processes, data standards, and system updates.

Ensure compliance with organizational policies, data privacy, and security standards.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Education and Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geomatics, Engineering, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field desired.

2–3 years of experience working with GIS systems, preferably in utilities, infrastructure, or asset management environments.

Experience coordinating GIS workflows or managing subcontractors or consultants is strongly preferred.

Familiarity with municipal or public works data management processes (streetlights, power, water, or similar) is a plus.
Technical Skills

Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and/or Enterprise).

Basic understanding of spatial data management, data integration, and mapping standards.

Experience with data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or ArcGIS Dashboards).

Working knowledge of data governance, quality control, and process documentation.

Familiarity with asset management systems, field data collection tools, or work order systems is an advantage.
Project and Coordination Skills

Proven ability to coordinate multiple GIS processes and deliverables across teams or subcontractors.

Strong organizational and tracking skills, able to monitor progress, identify issues, and ensure timely completion of GIS updates.

Communication and stakeholder management skills to collaborate effectively across departments.

Experience developing or maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) or process documentation.
Ability to balance technical understanding with operational oversight, prioritizing accuracy and efficiency.
