Role Summary:
The Cost Estimator will analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documents to determine material, labor, and equipment costs. The Cost Estimator collaborates with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and project managers to ensure the project remains within budget and to provide financial clarity for decision-making. The role requires a deep understanding of construction methods, materials, and timelines.
Job Responsibilities:

Project Estimation:
-
Analyze project blueprints, schematics, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.

Review and interpret contracts, specifications, and proposals to develop detailed cost estimates.

Prepare quantity take-offs and bill of materials for all construction phases.

Work with SIS procurement manager, vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing for materials and labor.

Adjust estimates based on project scope changes and unforeseen conditions.

Bid Preparation:

Prepare detailed bid packages for submission to clients or stakeholders.

Review historical data (as applicable) and apply cost factors to develop competitive bids.

Ensure bid submissions are timely, complete, and in compliance with client specifications.

Analyze completed projects to compare actual costs to estimated costs and adjust estimating techniques accordingly.

Collaboration & Communication:

Collaborate with architects, engineers, and clients to ensure accurate estimates that align with the project vision.

Communicate with project managers, procurement teams, and subcontractors to update estimates based on real-time information.

Present estimates to clients and stakeholders, explaining cost variances and budget impacts.

Facilitate cost-reduction strategies while maintaining the project’s quality and timeline.

Data Management & Reporting:

Maintain comprehensive records of estimated and actual project costs.

Develop and manage a database of historical costs for future reference.

Prepare detailed cost analysis reports, tracking project progress, and identifying any budget deviations.

Monitor and update project cost estimates throughout the construction process to reflect any changes in design or scope.

Market Research:

Conduct market research to stay updated on current construction costs, material availability, and market conditions.

Develop relationships with vendors and subcontractors to negotiate better rates and services.

Preferred skills & Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.

3-5 years of experience in cost estimation, preferably in the construction industry.

Advanced knowledge of Excel and other data management tools.

Familiarity with project management software (Excel, Monday.com, Microsoft Project).

Strong understanding of construction processes, methods, materials, and project management principles.

Relevant certifications, such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or Associate Estimator (AACE), are a plus.
