SERVICE MANAGER – HEAVY EQUIPMENT

CMI is seeking a Service Manager to lead our Juneau heavy-equipment service

operation supporting mining, construction, and fleet customers across Southeast

Alaska. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for technician productivity, work

in-process, scheduling, safety, and service profitability across one of the most

logistically complex territories in Alaska.

 

This role is for someone who wants to run a department, not just supervise a shop.

What You’ll Be Running

 

• A full-service heavy equipment shop supporting:
• Mining customers
• Construction contractors
• Fleet & rental equipment
• Field service and shop technicians
• Remote site dispatch and scheduling
• Warranty, rework, and parts coordination
• High-dollar downtime where execution matters

 

You will own how workflows through the shop — from quote to close — and be

accountable for keeping machines turning, techs productive, and customers

supported.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

 

• Own technician scheduling, dispatch, and job prioritization
• Control work-in-process, backlog, and billed vs unbilled labor
• Ensure jobs are quoted, authorized, completed, and closed accurately
• Drive technician productivity, training, and accountability
• Minimize rework and warranty exposure
• Coordinate with parts, rental, and sales to support customer needs
• Maintain a safe, clean, professional shop environment
• Track department performance and participate in weekly operating reviews

 

This is a leadership role. Occasional hands-on support may be required when needed, but your primary responsibility is running the department.

What We’re Looking For

 

We are looking for someone who has already run a shop, fleet, or field service

operation, not someone who is learning for the first time.

 

Strong candidates will have experience with:

 

• Heavy equipment, mining, construction, or fleet maintenance
• Technician scheduling and job control
• WIP and backlog management
• Parts flow and downtime mitigation
• Safety and compliance
• Holding people accountable in high-pressure environments

 

Formal education is not required if you have the right operational experience.
