Summary
Under limited supervision, the Rental Technician is responsible for performing rental check-ins and check-outs, assisting customers, organizing equipment, and maintaining a clean and safe yard. This position emphasizes customer service and operational efficiency, with repair and maintenance tasks as a secondary priority.
Essential Functions
- Perform timely rental check-ins and check-outs of company-owned rental equipment, ensuring a smooth customer experience.
- Assist customers with loading and unloading equipment and provide necessary instructions regarding operation and attachments.
- Conduct visual and mechanical functionality checks on all rental equipment to ensure readiness and safety for the customer.
- Maintain exceptional organization within the rental equipment yard, ensuring that equipment is properly stored, and each piece has a current check-out record.
- Exercise great attention to detail, ensuring the accuracy of all paperwork related to rental transactions, which is critical to the success of the role.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the rental yard and equipment, including steam cleaning machinery as needed.
- Ensure all equipment and attachments are clearly marked with company ID numbers and CMI decals.
- Red tag equipment needing repairs and coordinate with rental coordinators on scheduling these repairs.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as adding oil and airing tires when necessary.
- Assist in minor repairs (flat tires, blown hoses) as required, prioritizing safety and operational efficiency.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Entry-level to four years of related experience and/or training in equipment repair and maintenance preferred.
- Must have a valid Class C driver’s license and a clean DMV report.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently climb or balance, talk or hear, and occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- Frequently works outdoors in various weather conditions and may occasionally be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.
- Occasionally works in high, precarious places.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
