Duties & Responsibilities

  • Receive goods and verify the quality and quantity of all items unloaded from railroad cars, trucks, and trailers.
  • Compare received items against supplier documentation and immediately report discrepancies to carriers, supervisors, and the Purchasing department in accordance with company policy.
  • Verify and record all items loaded for outbound shipments.
  • Retrieve and update all back-ordered sales orders.
  • Collect packing slips and Bills of Lading (BOLs) from the inbound tray for all incoming material.
  • Receive all material staged in the inbound “alley” in the order of arrival, ensuring processing within 24 hours of receipt.
  • Inspect all materials for damage or discrepancies and verify both quantity and quality.
  • Immediately report damaged or discrepant materials to the Shipping Manager, Purchasing Manager, and Project Manager.
  • Stage all received materials in designated staging racks.
  • Stage returned materials in the RMA area and coordinate with Purchasing to generate appropriate documentation.
  • Verify and inspect steel material heat numbers against Material Test Reports (MTRs).
  • Stage materials for the weld shop in the designated weld staging rack.
  • Prioritize receiving materials for production departments, including the machine shop, weld shop, and paint shop.
  • Verify and confirm all ductile iron pipe against packing slips prior to unstrapping and unloading.
  • Provide the Machine Shop Manager with copies of packing slips for all materials received related to machine shop operations.
  • Inform the Paint Shop Manager of all ductile fittings purchased for Ceramapure lining.
  • Turn in all completed sales orders to the Shipping Manager.
  • Stamp and sign all packing slips once materials have been properly received and verified.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
  • Assist with unloading trucks, will-call pickups, and inventory stocking as needed.
  • Communicate with warehouse staff regarding shipment arrivals, processing needs, and other relevant warehouse information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to accurately sort, count, and verify received materials.
  • Basic understanding of railway, dock, and warehouse operations.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and/or inventory management software for recordkeeping, data entry, and reporting.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • State motor vehicle operator’s permit for forklift operation highly preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to traverse a distribution warehouse and access various storage areas by stretching, squatting, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperatures in warehouse and loading dock environments.
