Job Summary:
This position is responsible for a variety of patient and department support activities for specific imaging modalities or specialties (for example: PET, mammography, MR, CT, fluoroscopy). Responsibilities vary depending on the imaging modality or specialty and may include the following: supporting patients needing additional imaging, scheduling and verifying patient appointments, assisting patients with financial aid, obtaining prior authorization, gathering prior imaging and clinical documentation required for exams, and optimizing the efficiency of the specialty’s schedule and templates. This role requires significant collaboration with modality and site leadership, physicians. and technologists. The Specialty Coordinator is competent in interacting with a culturally diverse patient population and embraces diversity in general.
Pay: $21.16 - $25.17 per hour based on relevant experience, skills, and abilities.

Essential Job Functions:

Schedule imaging exams, which may include advanced or specialized exams or procedures requiring a high level of coordination and collaboration with technologists and physicians

Perform appointment verification functions to assure the accuracy of paperwork for patients’ appointments potentially including the collection of all prior imaging, clinical notes and lab results

Verify accuracy, appropriateness, and eligibility of specialized imaging exams in cooperation with imaging technologists and radiologists

Professionally communicate and coordinate care with referring physician offices

Review schedules to assure the efficient set-up of templates and effective utilization of exam time
-
Work the patient wait list regularly
-
Accurate and timely documentation of all processes in RIS, MRS and PACS, as applicable.

Cross-train in and support insurance authorization functions when needed

Act as point of contact for other departments for the given specialty
Qualifications:
Education/Work Experience
-
High School Diploma or GED required.

Three years of radiology experience in a support or clinical role preferred.

Understanding of diagnostic imaging procedures

High proficiency in the use of computers and information systems such as the RIS, , PACS and the scheduling module.

Must possess excellent verbal communication skills, good organization skills and be detailed oriented.

Must be able to read and understand imaging reports.

Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills.

Communicate professionally with other medical facilities, patients, and customers.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and carry out instructions effectively.
Physical Requirements
Work is classified as sedentary in physical requirements. Requires the ability to lift/carry 1-5 pounds frequently, occasionally 10 pounds maximum.
Mental Requirements
Work requires high attention to detail and the ability to handle mentally stressful situations. The ability to maintain high level of sensitivity towards confidential information is also required
