We are seeking an energetic and results-driven Used Car Manager who understands today’s fast-moving automotive market. This role requires someone who can track selling trends, read the market, and adjust inventory strategy quickly — knowing when to operate lean, when to stock aggressively, and how to maximize profitability without sacrificing customer experience.

The Used Car Manager is responsible for the appraisal, purchasing, reconditioning, merchandising, and performance of used vehicle inventory, while working closely with the recon team to ensure vehicles are frontline-ready and retail standards are consistently met.

Compensation

Employees in this position will be paid a base salary plus commissions. Commission amounts vary based on performance, but expected average annual earnings range from:

$140,000 – $198,000 annually

Key Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Monitor market conditions, pricing trends, and inventory performance to drive profitability and turn.
  • Appraise customer trade-ins during the sales process for maximum dealership profitability.
  • Attend weekly auctions and purchase vehicles aligned with dealership inventory strategy and market demand.
  • Manage used vehicle inventory levels by identifying when to run lean and when to increase stock based on sales trends.
  • Ensure all used vehicles are reconditioned to Mossy standards and frontline-ready for merchandising.
  • Work closely with the recon team to maintain strong workflow, cycle time, and quality standards.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and competitive merchandising and display standards both online and on the lot.
  • Provide a consistently outstanding customer experience by delivering the “neighborly way” of buying and servicing a vehicle.
  • Maintain a respectful, accountable workplace culture that supports employee growth, teamwork, and long-term retention.
  • Promote a culture of customer satisfaction and long-term relationship building.
  • Lead, motivate, and hold staff accountable to achieve and exceed performance goals.
  • Foster strong interdepartmental relationships that support dealership growth and profitability.
  • Establish monthly objectives for unit sales, gross profits, expenses, and operating profit.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable legal requirements.
  • Attend manager meetings as requested.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in sales and leadership.
  • Strong understanding of today’s used vehicle market and inventory management best practices.
  • Competency in client financing processes.
  • Proficient with operating systems conducive to sales and finance.
  • Professional appearance and strong communication skills.
  • Consistently punctual, prepared, and able to work effectively with coworkers.
  • Ability to follow posted work rules, procedures, and company policies.
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and clean driving record required.
