POSITION SUMMARY

The Nursery Team Lead supports the mission of Brown Missionary Baptist Church by providing leadership, supervision, and care within the Nursery Ministry while ensuring a safe, welcoming, nurturing, and spiritually enriching environment for infants and toddlers. This position assists with overseeing nursery operations, supporting nursery staff and volunteers, and ensuring compliance with child protection and safety standards during worship services, ministry programs, and church events.

The Nursery Team Lead serves families and children with compassion, excellence, professionalism, and Christ-centered care while supporting the overall mission and culture of BMBC.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Nursery Operations & Childcare

  • Supervise daily nursery operations during worship services, Bible studies, conferences, and ministry events

  • Ensure safe, clean, organized, and welcoming nursery environments

  • Assist with check-in and check-out procedures for children and families

  • Monitor nursery activities to ensure age-appropriate care and engagement

  • Provide nurturing care for infants and toddlers including feeding, comforting, diapering, and supervision

Team Leadership & Volunteer Support

  • Assist Nursery Director with supervision of nursery staff and volunteers

  • Help coordinate volunteer schedules and staffing coverage

  • Provide guidance, support, and encouragement to nursery team members

  • Ensure all volunteers follow nursery policies, procedures, and child protection guidelines

  • Support onboarding and training of nursery workers and volunteers

Child Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with BMBC Child Protection Policies and procedures

  • Enforce two-adult rule and classroom safety protocols

  • Monitor health, sanitation, and emergency preparedness procedures

  • Report incidents, injuries, or safety concerns promptly and accurately

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and ministry operations

Family & Guest Experience

  • Welcome parents, children, members, and guests warmly and professionally

  • Provide excellent customer service and communication with families

  • Assist families with nursery procedures and ministry information

  • Support a positive and secure environment that promotes trust and comfort for parents

Ministry & Event Support

  • Support nursery ministry during church-wide events, conferences, and special services

  • Assist with classroom preparation, inventory, supplies, and ministry organization

  • Help maintain nursery equipment, toys, furniture, and supplies in excellent condition

  • Participate in ministry meetings, training sessions, and team development activities

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Experience working with infants, toddlers, or children preferred

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to supervise and lead volunteers effectively

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and special events

  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality

Preferred

  • Experience in church nursery, childcare, daycare, preschool, or children’s ministry environment

  • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred

  • Childcare or early childhood education background preferred

  • Experience leading volunteers or ministry teams

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work may occur in nursery classrooms, worship services, ministry events, and childcare environments

  • Evening, weekend, holiday, and special-event availability required

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift children, carry supplies, and move throughout nursery environments

  • Ability to respond quickly during emergencies or child safety situations

  • Ability to maintain active supervision of children in fast-paced environments
