Director of Nursing (RN) - Home Health and Home Care
50 S Beretania St. Suite C-117A, Honolulu, HI
Full Time
Director of Nursing (RN) - Home Care
Kama'aina owned. Joint Commission accredited. Serving Oahu since 201o.
Own the clinical department. Build it stronger.
BrightStar Care of Honolulu is hiring a Director of Nursing to lead clinical care for our clients across Oahu, from personal care through skilled nursing and infusion. We are looking for a leader who earns the trust of a team, brings out the best in people, and takes pride in seeing things through. Over time, you will shape and grow the clinical team, including our per diem nursing pool.
What Makes This Role Special
- Your clinical judgment is trusted. You guide when a client is ready to start care, when a caregiver is ready for a skill, and what safe care looks like in each home. We talk through decisions together, and when you raise a safety concern, leadership listens and supports you.
- A department to shape. You start with a strong clinical resource nurse and experienced field nurses. You will assess what the department needs, develop the people in it, and build our per diem (PRN) nursing pool so we can serve more clients well. Along the way you will stay hands-on with clients when the team needs you.
- Support from the top. You report to the COO, with a weekly one-on-one, full access to the information you need, and timely decisions when you bring something forward.
- A seat on the leadership team. You help shape which clients we serve, how we grow skilled services, and how the department grows with them.
- Something to build. Families trust the care we give. We are investing in stronger systems for tracking visits and documentation, and we want a leader to shape them. Your first weeks are for listening, shadowing and getting to know our people and clients.
What You Will Lead
- Assessments, plans of care, orders and supervisory visits, kept current and scheduled two weeks ahead
- Changes in condition: urgent concerns acted on immediately, and every routine alert reviewed by a nurse within 24 hours
- Your nurses: clear expectations, regular coaching, and honest feedback that helps them grow
- Developing your clinical team and growing our PRN nurse pool
- Caregiver training and skills validation
- Incidents and complaints, followed through until the solution holds
- Joint Commission readiness all year, including chart audits and quarterly quality meetings
- The clinical on-call roster
- Direct clinical care when the team needs you
What Success Looks Like
- Clients receive safe, excellent care, on time
- We stay fully compliant with Joint Commission, state and BrightStar standards, and ready for a survey on any day
- Nurses and caregivers feel prepared, supported and proud of their work
- Lessons from problems turn into lasting improvements
- Leadership always has a clear picture of how clinical care is going
Who We Are Looking For
- Unrestricted Hawaii RN license and current BLS/CPR; BSN preferred
- Three or more years of nursing leadership, clinical management or supervisory experience, including responsibility for your team's performance
- Home health, home care or hospice experience preferred
- Experience with a Joint Commission or state survey
- Current clinical skills and a willingness to work in the field alongside your team
- You build trust first, and you treat caregivers, nurses and office staff with the same respect
- You have built or improved a clinical system, and you can walk us through it
- You have helped a team member grow, and made a hard call when it was needed
- Reliable transportation and auto insurance
The Details
- $110,000 to $120,000 per year, depending on experience
- Full time, primarily on site with some flexibility
- Shared clinical on-call rotation for after-hours questions
- 100% employer-paid medical, prescription, dental and vision for eligible employees
- 401(k) match, paid time off, free continuing education
