We are looking for a strong accounting leader with a deep understanding of financial reporting, internal controls, financial analysis, and accounting best practices. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical accounting background, preferably with a CPA designation, along with the leadership skills and business acumen necessary to manage a multi-location dealership accounting operation.
This is an opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to do more than close the books. We need someone who can build a strong accounting team, improve processes, ensure financial accuracy, and provide meaningful financial insight to help guide the business.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Leadership & Financial Reporting
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations for all seven dealership rooftops.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent financial statements and management reporting.
- Review financial statements, general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial reporting standards.
- Coordinate annual audits, tax preparation, and other external accounting requirements.
Automotive Dealership Accounting
- Oversee dealership financial statements, including the accurate reporting of sales, gross profit, expenses, and departmental performance.
- Ensure proper accounting for vehicle inventory, floorplan financing, accounts payable and receivable, and fixed assets.
- Monitor new and used vehicle inventory accounting and related reconciliations.
- Oversee accounting related to service, parts, body shop, finance and insurance (F&I), and other dealership departments, as applicable.
- Ensure accurate manufacturer financial reporting and compliance with applicable reporting deadlines.
- Work with dealership leadership to identify financial trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
Team Management & Process Improvement
- Lead, develop, and mentor the accounting team.
- Establish clear responsibilities, accountability, and performance expectations.
- Standardize accounting processes and procedures across all seven locations.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and streamline workflows.
- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and consistent adherence to company policies.
Financial Analysis & Business Partnership
- Partner with ownership and dealership general managers to interpret financial results and improve profitability.
- Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and key financial performance indicators.
- Analyze financial performance by dealership and department.
- Identify risks, cost-saving opportunities, and areas for operational improvement.
- Provide timely, actionable financial information to support strategic business decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Significant accounting experience, with a strong preference for automotive dealership or multi-location retail accounting experience.
- Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or Director of Accounting preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, internal controls, and month-end closing procedures.
- Experience managing, developing, and leading an accounting team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple entities, locations, and competing priorities.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems and financial reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- High degree of integrity, attention to detail, and professional accountability.
The Ideal Candidate
The right person for Briggs Auto Group is a hands-on accounting leader who understands both the technical side of accounting and the business side of running a successful automotive dealership group.
You are comfortable digging into the details, asking the right questions, identifying discrepancies, and holding processes to a high standard. You can lead a team, communicate effectively with ownership and dealership management, and turn financial information into actionable business insights.
You take ownership, look for better ways to do things, and understand that accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls are essential to the success of a growing dealership group.
