Job Summary
Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center is seeking qualified, motivated Registered Nurses to join our Emergency Department team. As a Magnet-recognized hospital, we are committed to high-quality patient care, safety, and teamwork. The ED RN provides competent nursing care in a fast-paced, 29-bed environment (including six fast-track beds) to patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics, managing a wide range of acute and emergent conditions.

The ED RN provides competent nursing care in a fast-paced, 29-bed environment (including six fast-track beds) to patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics, managing a wide range of acute and emergent conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment & Care: Perform thorough assessments, develop personalized care plans, and deliver direct nursing care to ED patients.
- Intervention & Evaluation: Administer medications, treatments, and interventions promptly in response to changing patient conditions.
- Critical Thinking: Utilize the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, and evaluate patient care.
- Collaboration: Work closely with board-certified emergency physicians and a multidisciplinary team to ensure efficient and compassionate care.
- Communication & Advocacy: Act as a patient advocate, communicating with families and ensuring patient comfort, dignity, and safety.
- Documentation: Accurately document all care in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Specialty Duties: Perform triaging, trauma care, and support for violence survivors (if trained).
Requirements
- Education: Registered Nurse Diploma, ADN, BSN, or MSN required.
- Licensure: Valid RN License to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or compact state).
- Experience: 1 year of nursing experience (preferred); previous ED experience is highly valued.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required within 90 days of hire.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC required within 1 year of hire.
- Skills: Strong critical thinking, assessment, and communication skills; capability to thrive in a high-energy environment.
