Job Summary
Sentara Leigh Hospital is seeking a compassionate and capable Registered Nurse to join our fast-paced Medicine Cardiac Telemetry unit. This role focuses on providing high-quality care to patients with various cardiovascular conditions, including post-cardiac cath, CHF, and general medical needs. The unit utilizes all-room telemetry and eHospital monitoring. We foster a team-oriented culture and welcome both experienced nurses and new graduates.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor and interpret EKG rhythms (telemetry strips) and vital signs (blood pressure, oxygen levels), recognizing abnormalities and responding promptly to changes in patient condition.
  • Assessment & Care: Assess, admit, and discharge patients on the Medical Telemetry unit, utilizing critical thinking and the nursing process to develop and implement care plans.
  • Intervention: Administer medications, perform treatments, and manage IV therapies as prescribed by physicians.
  • Collaboration: Work within an interdisciplinary team, including collaborating with doctors to manage cardiac emergencies.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate patient records and EMR documentation.
  • Education: Provide patient and family education regarding cardiac health, medication management, and post-hospital care.
  • Safety: Participate in bedside shift reporting and engage in daily assessments to prevent hospital-acquired infections (HAIs).
 
Requirements
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program (Diploma, ADN, BSN, or MSN).
  • Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Virginia or Compact Multi-State License.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within 90 days of hire. ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale are preferred.
  • Experience: New graduates are welcome to apply. Previous acute care experience is preferred but not required.
  • Skills: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong communication skills, and ability to handle physical demands (walking, standing, lifting).
