Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Progressive Care Unit / Telemetry Registered Nurse to join a hospital team in Wausau, WI, on a travel contract. The PCU/Telemetry RN will monitor and care for patients requiring close observation, including those with cardiac conditions, post-surgical recovery, and other step-down level needs. The ideal candidate is adaptable, detail-oriented, and skilled in managing patients with complex medical conditions.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care including assessments, medication administration, and monitoring of patient status.
  • Interpret and respond to telemetry monitoring, promptly addressing abnormal cardiac rhythms and changes in condition.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, recovery goals, and discharge instructions.
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in compliance with hospital standards.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and rapidly changing patient conditions.
  • Maintain adherence to hospital policies, infection control protocols, and patient safety practices.

 

Qualifications

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse license in Wisconsin (or compact license).
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN).
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in PCU, Telemetry, or Step-Down nursing.
  • Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • COVID-19 vaccine and recent tuberculosis test.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt to high-acuity patient populations and fast-paced environments.
