CVOR Technologist – Surgical Services - Travel Position (with $7,500 Completion Bonus)

Location: Columbus, OH
Job Type: Travel Contract
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 3x12 Nights
Pay: $2,490/week (plus $2,500 completion bonus per contract, up to $7,500 after three contracts) 

 


Position Summary:

The Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Technologist is a vital member of the surgical team, responsible for assisting surgeons during complex cardiovascular procedures. This role involves preparing and maintaining the sterile field, handling specialized CVOR instruments, operating equipment, and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, efficiency, and technical excellence in the cardiovascular surgery environment.

 


Key Responsibilities:

Surgical Support:

  • Prepare the operating room for cardiovascular, thoracic, and vascular procedures, ensuring all required instruments, equipment, and supplies are available.
  • Assist the surgeon by anticipating instrument and equipment needs during surgical procedures.
  • Maintain strict sterile technique and enforce infection control standards.
  • Handle complex instruments such as heart-lung bypass machines, grafts, scopes, endoscopic tools, and CVOR-specific devices (as allowed per facility).
  • Participate in setup, operation, and troubleshooting of surgical equipment (e.g., cardiopulmonary bypass support tools, endoscopic systems).

Clinical Workflow & Safety:

  • Perform instrument counts, secure specimens, and maintain accurate surgical logs.
  • Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping.
  • Ensure equipment is properly sterilized, maintained, and stored.
  • Follow all CVOR protocols, including emergency and “Code” procedures.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, RNs, and other healthcare team members.
  • Communicate effectively regarding case progress, needs, and concerns.
  • Support orientation and training of new surgical staff or technologists.

Documentation:

  • Accurately document supplies, implants, and case details in electronic medical record (EMR) and surgical tracking systems.

 


Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program required.
  • Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
  • Additional cardiovascular specialty certification preferred (e.g., TS-C, CSFA, CVOR certification).

Experience:

  • Minimum 1–2 years of CVOR or open-heart surgery experience required.
  • Experience in cardiovascular, vascular, and thoracic surgical procedures strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with cardiopulmonary bypass, endoscopic vein harvesting support, and robotic-assisted surgery is a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and surgical protocols.
  • High attention to detail and ability to anticipate surgical team needs.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and precise in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with EMR and surgical documentation systems.
