Position Overview

This role is located on a busy 49-bed cardiac/medical telemetry unit caring for patients with CHF, respiratory illness, GI disorders, diabetes, post-cath recovery, total joint replacements, and general telemetry needs. RNs must be confident in rhythm interpretation and able to work safely in a fast-paced environment with high patient turnover.

Clinicians must pass a dysrhythmia exam (minimum 80%, two attempts) prior to contract signing. This unit offers one shift of on-unit orientation—ideal for strong, adaptable RNs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to Med/Surg Telemetry patients with varied and complex medical conditions.
  • Monitor telemetry rhythms, interpret strips accurately, and sign rhythm interpretation at least once per shift.
  • Manage patient assessments, medications, IV therapy, and documentation in Cerner EMR.
  • Care for patients recovering from cardiac procedures, respiratory illness, CVA/TIA, and post-operative orthopedic cases.
  • Administer and maintain set-rate drips such as Diltiazem/Cardizem (no titration required).
  • Utilize respiratory support devices (BiPAP, CPAP, oxygen therapy).
  • Collaborate with physicians, charge nurses, CNAs, respiratory therapy, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Float to East Campus and to PCU (if qualified) as required.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection control, and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Active Arizona or Compact RN license (required).
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg or Telemetry experience (strongly preferred).
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing (two attempts max).
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS (AHA required).
  • Required clinical skills:
    • Basic telemetry rhythm interpretation
    • Experience with CVA/TIA patients
    • Post-cath care
    • Total joint replacement experience
    • IV therapy, medication administration
  • Cerner EMR experience strongly recommended (due to limited orientation).
  • Must not have worked (FT, PT, or PRN) for CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity within the past year.
  • Must live more than 50 miles from the facility.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and recent TB test required.
