Schedule: 3x12 Nights (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
Pay: $2,201.40/week (plus $2,500 completion bonus per contract, up to $7,500 after three contracts)
Job Description
The PCU/MS Float Registered Nurse provides high-quality, adaptable nursing care across multiple Progressive Care and Medical-Surgical units. This role requires exceptional clinical judgment, flexibility, and the ability to manage diverse patient populations with varying levels of acuity. The RN will monitor, assess, and treat patients with complex medical conditions while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective care.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care for patients requiring step-down, telemetry, or medical-surgical level care.
- Float between all PCU and MS units as needed; staffing reassignments may occur every 4 hours (2–3 times per shift).
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on patient needs and responses.
- Perform cardiac monitoring, interpret dysrhythmias, and manage cardiac and vasoactive drips.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and blood products following facility policies and physician orders.
- Perform and document central line care, tracheostomy management, chest tube (Emerson/PleurEvac) maintenance, and non-invasive ventilation support (CPAP/BiPAP).
- Respond to emergency situations using Rapid Response and Code protocols.
- Educate patients and families regarding care plans and discharge instructions.
- Maintain documentation accuracy in Epic EMR and uphold patient safety and infection control standards.
Qualifications
- Active RN license (Virginia or Compact State).
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU or Step-Down experience required; telemetry and med-surg experience preferred.
- Certifications: BLS and ACLS (AHA required); NIHSS and CPI preferred.
- Proficient in IV therapy, phlebotomy, cardiac monitoring, and hemodynamic interpretation.
- Must be comfortable floating to all PCU and Med-Surg units and working without CNA support when required.
- Epic charting experience required.
- Must be willing to work one holiday per 13-week contract (two during winter holiday periods).
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and recent tuberculosis test required.
