Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Obstetric (OB) Registered Nurse to join our maternity care team in a hospital setting in Chicago. The OB RN will provide high-quality nursing care to patients throughout the stages of pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery. This role requires clinical expertise, emotional support, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure the best possible outcomes for both mother and baby.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Care & Monitoring
- Monitor maternal and fetal well-being using clinical assessments and electronic fetal monitoring.
- Assist in labor and delivery, including natural, medicated, and cesarean births.
- Provide postpartum care, including patient education on recovery, infant care, and breastfeeding support.
- Administer medications and manage IV therapies as prescribed.
- Respond to obstetric emergencies, utilizing appropriate clinical interventions and protocols.
- Maintain detailed and accurate patient records using electronic health systems (EHR).
- Collaborate closely with OB/GYNs, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, and support staff.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, and infection control standards.
Patient & Family Education
- Educate patients and families on postpartum recovery, newborn care, breastfeeding techniques, and discharge instructions.
- Identify patient and family learning needs based on cultural, emotional, and developmental factors.
- Provide health teaching using hospital resources and evaluate the effectiveness of patient education.
Emergency Response
- Respond promptly to obstetric emergencies (e.g., preeclampsia, hemorrhage, fetal distress) and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Maintain readiness for rapid response and emergency deliveries.
Care Planning & Documentation
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians and the healthcare team.
- Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, outcomes, and care plans in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Participate in discharge planning, including coordination of referrals and follow-up services.
Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Collaborate with OB/GYNs, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, lactation consultants, and social workers to provide holistic care.
- Delegate appropriate tasks to other healthcare staff and ensure timely completion.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and data-driven quality assurance activities.
Qualifications:
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in obstetric or labor and delivery nursing (preferred).
- Experience with Epic or other EHR systems is a plus.
