Recovery Coach Job Summary

The Recovery Coach works inside a correctional facility and will be part of Medications for Addiction Treatment team. This position performs a full range of Peer Support Specialist/Recovery Coach assignments,  the tasks require knowledge of utilization of policies, procedures, and statutes to carry out Peer Support  Specialists/Recovery Coach functions. This position is responsible for providing direct services to prisoners  engaged Medications for Opioid Use Disorder. This position is responsible for providing information, support,  assistance, advocacy, or “systems navigation” to individuals and is based on a recovery-oriented support  environment that advances the recovery orientation. These efforts are focused on the acquisition of  knowledge and skills that are intended to allow opportunities for individuals to explore areas of interest and  opportunity. This approach will help them become more informed and skilled and build confidence in their  sense of self.

Reporting
Reports to the franchise owner/manager or designee and to client supervisors and managers.

Education
High school diploma. Completion of a Recovery Coach certification or training. 


Licensure
Recovery Coach/Peer Support Specialist Certification. (CPRC or CCAR accepted) 


Experience
At least one year of experience.

Credentials
1. Background screening as required by Section 7.
2. OIG, SAM, OFAC and NSO screening.
3. Current health provider CPR from the American Heart Association at the BLS level.
4. Hepatitis B Statement or Declination [OSHA 29 CFR, 1910.1030(f)(2)].
5. Two-step TB test prior to entering the correctional facility. This test consists of two-step testing with one week between tests, unless the applicant supplies documentation of a negative TB skin test result within the preceding 12 months. A temporary staff employee may not commence employment until the second TB test results are confirmed negative. A temporary staff employee with a previous positive TB test result must provide current documentation of a negative chest x-ray performed in the last 30 days. The Quantiferon Gold test may be used in lieu of the two-step TB test.
6. Drug screening will be a 5-panel drug screen test that tests for: Amphetamines, Cocaine, Opiates, Marijuana, and PCP.

Environmental Working Conditions

  • 1. Correctional setting. Requires walking across prison yards and climbing stairs. 

  • 2. Job requires sitting for extended periods of time while using the computer. Moderate physical effort is  required in the performance of this job; stooping, stretching, bending and lifting stacks of prisoner files. 

  • 3. Job is demanding because of the complexity and diversity of the tasks, conflicting deadlines and last minute concerns of prisoners. There is also the stress of knowing that errors could have ramifications in  public safety and the health and well-being of the individual. 

  • 4. Job requires ability to work well under the most rigorous and changing conditions.

  • 5. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.

  • 6. The physical demands are representative of those that may be required by an employee to successfully perform the representative duties and responsibilities of the job. Applicant should be able to read   medical equipment and documents. Pushing carts and medical equipment may be a component of the job. 
  • 7. A pre-employment physical is required for this position: The physical will determine if the temporary staff   employee can handle the physical demands of the work, which include the following items:
    • a. The employee must be able to perform CPR;  

      b. lift at least 30 pounds;  

      c. walk up and down the stairs;  

      d. walk long distances;  

      f. stand for prolonged periods, and, 

      g. use restraints and aggressive behavior management practices.  

Representative Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Complies with ATC Healthcare Services policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain records, prepare reports and correspondences. 
  • Understanding of multiple paths of recovery. 
  • Basic knowledge of addiction and mental illness. 
  • Supportive of the 3 types of FDA- approved medications used to treat opioid use disorders.  6. Broad-based working knowledge of community resources. 
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and utilize an electronic record. 8. Maintains confidentiality related to patient, family, client facility and staff in accordance with the Health  Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).  
  • Provides patient care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity  and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved.  
  • This position works closely with prisoners engaged in medication for opioid use disorder treatment.  11. This position works collaboratively on the prisoner’s care team, to support the prisoner in achieving their  substance use treatment goals as outlined in their individualized treatment plan. 
  •  A broad-based working knowledge of community resources is required, along with an ability to  communicate verbally and in writing and utilize an electronic record. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
