Position Summary

The Automotive Painter / Prep Technician is responsible for preparing vehicles and vehicle components for paint, assisting with the refinishing process, and ensuring all work meets manufacturer and dealership quality standards. This role is essential to delivering high-quality repairs and an exceptional customer experience.

 What You’ll Do

• Prepare vehicle surfaces for paint application by sanding, masking, cleaning, and priming.
• Identify and correct minor surface imperfections.
• Mix paint materials according to manufacturer specifications.
• Apply primers, sealers, and paint as needed.
• Buff, polish,and finish painted surfaces for a high-quality appearance.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of paint and prep areas.
• Follow all safety, environmental, and OSHA guidelines.
• Work closely with estimators, body technicians, and painters to ensure efficient workflow.
• Complete assigned work within established production timelines.
• Perform quality inspections before vehicles move to the next stage of production.

 What You’ll Bring

Required

• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
• Ability to safely operate shop equipment and follow safety procedures

Preferred

• Automotive paint preparation experience
• Automotive painting and refinishing experience
• Collision center or body shop experience
• Knowledge of paint mixing systems, primers, sealers, and refinishing products
• I-CAR certifications or related industry training a plus

 Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Regularly Required To:

• Sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday
• Use hands and arms to handle, feel, grasp, or reach
• Speak and hear effectively
• Use close vision abilities for detailed work and inspections
• Operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver's license

Occasionally Required To:

• Lift, carry, push, or move up to 50 pounds
• Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Work in a shop environment with exposure to paint, chemicals, dust, and varying temperatures
• Maintain quality, safety, and shop cleanliness standards in accordance with OSHA requirements
