Position Summary
The HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for residential and commercial customers. This role requires strong technical expertise, a commitment to safety, and the ability to diagnose and solve mechanical problems efficiently in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Installation

Install new HVAC systems including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers, and ventilation equipment per manufacturer specifications and local codes

Run refrigerant lines, electrical wiring, and ductwork as required for each installation

Commission and test newly installed systems to verify proper operation

Educate customers on system operation, controls, and basic maintenance
Maintenance & Service

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, including filter changes, coil cleaning, belt inspections, and refrigerant level checks

Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant system failures using appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment

Repair or replace defective components including compressors, motors, circuit boards, thermostats, heat exchangers, and controls

Respond to emergency service calls within established response time targets
Documentation & Compliance

Complete service reports, work orders, and time logs accurately and in a timely manner

Maintain EPA 608 certification and handle refrigerants in compliance with federal regulations

Adhere to all OSHA, company, and site-specific safety standards

Communicate parts needs and order status to dispatch and service coordinators
Required Qualifications
-
3+ years of hands-on HVAC installation and service experience

EPA 608 Universal Certification (required)

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Demonstrated ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints

Proficiency with standard HVAC diagnostic tools: manifold gauges, multimeters, combustion analyzers

Strong troubleshooting skills across residential and light commercial systems

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces, attics, and rooftops
Preferred Qualifications

NATE certification (any specialty)

Experience with building automation systems (BAS) or smart thermostats

State HVAC license or journeyman certification

Prior experience with commercial refrigeration systems

Familiarity with ServiceTitan, FieldEdge, or similar field service software
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in the field at customer locations including homes, office buildings, and light industrial facilities. Technicians regularly work outdoors, in attics, crawl spaces, and on rooftops in varying weather conditions. This position requires adherence to all PPE requirements and company safety protocols at all times.
